Obama, regardless of the personality and political approach he displays on any given day, keeps running into the same wall of insurmountable opposition. The cold, hard reality is that the president is trapped in a very frustrating box: He realizes that the vast majority of Congress is as impervious to his pressure as it is his charm. He is damned if he does, damned if he doesn’t — and he knows it, several of his friends tell us.

He will most likely get nothing on guns despite his vow after Wednesday’s Senate defeat that “this effort is not over.” He will most likely get nothing more on a grand bargain to lift the economy. He stands a decent chance of getting an immigration deal. But as one influential Democratic adviser told us, that’s only because the president has largely stayed on the sidelines. “POTUS really doesn’t have any sway with red-state Dems,” said a top Democratic official close to the White House. Democratic senators, the official added, “won in states that POTUS lost — some by huge margins. Also, even in blue states, many Democrats ran ahead of POTUS.”

(Also on POLITICO: Obama's mission: Reassure, rally)

Obama has privately resigned himself to this bleak reality — in fact, he anticipated it more than a year ago. In private conversations during the campaign, Obama made plain that the job of being president was a drag under divided government — and that he had deep reservations about grinding out another two or four years of minimal progress through a gridlocked Congress. Now, the combination of Republican resistance and the high number of Senate Democrats running in red states in 2014 virtually assures little change for at least 18 months.

He needs to quit being a bully. People see him in that manner after Obamacare. Even his supporters see that. They were glad he bullied Obamacare into place and used the means of pushing something through Congress that most people didn't want. He thinks, or did until the latest showdown on guns, that he can bully and get his way. He cannot. He has to realize that HE needs to give in some and not continue this torrent of executive orders etc. Of course, if he doesn't whomever runs in 2016 as a Dem (and I sure hope it is Hillary because she is TIED TO him LOCK STOCK and BARREL) is screwed with the populace.

President Barack Hussein Obama is furious. He had planned on the HOUSE rejecting his gun control bill and working hard to heap the blame on Republicans before the mid-term elections. This screwed the pooch on that plan.

He will not stop, Vice President Biden has already suggested that President Obama use his Executive Order authority to bypass Congress AGAIN. He doesn't have a clue as to the art of negotiating. He's from Chicago and one of the first lines he used to describe his foes was from the Untouchables, if they bring a knife, we bring a gun. The Chicago Way.

Read an article yesterday that indicated a series of executive orders were being readied in order to enact the failed legislation...This was quoted from the vp and these orders will be announced next week....

Correct....but in this case the Senate voted on the legislation and it failed...agree or disagree with the results...

Anyone who is a realist will agree that ANY form of gun legislation will be a heavy lift and BHO knew that going in . . . . he most certainly has never enjoyed support in any form from the GOP hence the historical low ratings for Republicans in general. So, I agree that this paradigm of obstruction centered firmly in the opposition party will not change . . . . . he was, and rightfully so should have been, extremely disappointed that the Senate Dems turned out to lack political courage to support something 90% of citizens wanted served as huge political loss . . . . . . . but its not the end of the world and he'll move forward like he always does.

BHO probably would have gotten background checks through if Harry Reid hadn't played his little games with all the amendments but go ahead, it's all the R's fault.....bottom line is all the BCs would do is keep honest people honest.

Had conversations with several gun owners and not one had objections to closing the background check loopholes....the attached amendments more than likely stopped passage of this legislation and who was responsible for the additions of those amendments?...

Over 90% of America wanted background checks and these Idiots couldn't do it.. If they're going against the people for a special interest group their days are numbered.. One mass shooting with a gun bought without a background check would pretty much seal the deal on their political career..

Horsecrap...in a Gallop poll posted only 4% of Americans think gun control is important. It's posted here on the forum. So much for your lies. READ:

That's not the issue...believe the background checks could/would have had support but the amendments attached snatched defeat from the jaws of victory...Lemme tell you a little story about these checks....Two weeks ago an individual purchases a handgun...instant background check and a three day waiting period---no problems...a week later...a friend of that person purchaes a rifle and ammo...instant background check---and carries it out the door within 20 minutes of purchase...explain the logic in this?...Either instant checks are the only measure needed or the three day waiting period is a hoax...The sales took place here...Not at a gun show..swap meet or personal sale...is there logic to this?....

Polls? That was one skewed poll.. If you really think that's true why in the hell do you post so many topics on the subject? Does that 4% scare you?

LMAO here! Obama bullied people regarding the ACA? I think not. 'Twas the other way 'round. He was bullied by Big Pharma and the private insurance industry.

We didn't get what we wanted in the form of the ACA, but at least we now have a large foot in a small door. sunny

The country didn't want ACA. Obama pushed it down our throats, this is a FACT. and if your saying that poor wee little Obama got beat up and bullied by the big pharma and insurance companies then he isn't much of a leader is he? oh yeah, he isn't that's right.
