This is the Executive Editor of the News Journal writing in an opinion piece in today's paper...

"And sometimes we do reject video, as we did several years ago with video regarding the Billingses’ murder case."

Is it correct to be written Billingses'. Or should it be Billings'.

It's correct either way.

Basically either way. Here's what one grammar site says:

Rule 2
Use the apostrophe to show possession. Place the apostrophe before the s to show singular possession.

Examples:
one boy's hat
one woman's hat
one actress's hat
one child's hat
Ms. Chang's house

NOTE: Although names ending in s or an s sound are not required to have the second s added in possessive form, it is preferred.

Examples:
Mr. Jones's golf clubs
Texas's weather
Ms. Straus's daughter
Jose Sanchez's artwork
Dr. Hastings's appointment (name is Hastings)
Mrs. Lees's books (name is Lees)

But there's no mention of 'es (as in Billings'es) being correct, which is how Schneider wrote it.
In other words, according to that, s's or 's is correct. Not s'es

I wish someone would reply to his piece in the comments section and point this out.
I would do it but I submitted a Viewpoint piece the other day which he will be one of the ones to decide whether it gets published or not. And if I correct his grammar that will likely kill my chances. lol

Actually I have to clean out the storage sheds to make room for a washer and dryer sitting in the back yard. And you don't know how much I don't look forward to doing that. So I'm posting this shit as an excuse to delay doing it.
But I'm also listening to Garrison Keillor do a doo-wop show with Aaron Neville on the radio in the background. And all work has to wait for that.

I screwed this post up by thinking I was writing another post when I was editing it. So fuck it.

Hmm, yes, I see your point. I guess we're on our own with this one? A virtual free-for-all in the world of apostrophes? Time to clean the shed.

Fortunately the shed has to wait. I'm now desperately trying to find the full video upload of this PBS show which I missed last month...
takes me back to my youth listening to the jukebox blaring in the beach Casino and taking in the aroma of those hamburgers and feeling the sunburn and the sand between my toes.
Listening to the music is taking me back to the whole setting like it was yesterday. And I left out something. There was also that hint of aroma of cold beer in the air whenever you were inside the Casino. It was a mixture of the cheeseburgers and the beer in the air and also the unique scent of that salt air all coming together. And the clanging bells of the old pinball machines. And it was punctuated by that din of voices of the dozens and sometimes hundreds of people of all ages who were all having fun in and around that place and out on the beach behind it.
God how I wish I could go back just to experience it one more time.
