I think I now understand it better. Trump was in the same mindset as Romney.
Both overestimated the popularity of wealthy people in current times. They both see themselves as role models which they are to an extent. BUT what they both miscalculated is the number of people out here in the populace who see them that way. They're role models to old white baby boomers but old white baby boomers are becoming less representative of the populace. And the rest of the populace aint big on old wealthy white men who see themselves as role models.
I agree with most of what you say, Bob, but ROLE MODELS? Hardly. And that's what people on the right side of the aisle don't seem to understand. People like Trump are exploiters; they leverage their power and wealth in ways that are unethical and destructive in the long run, and they make their fortunes off the misfortunes of others. Didn't Trump inherit his money? Hasn't he lost quite a bit of that personal fortune in speculative ventures that failed? He's not a paragon of American capitalism; he's more like a plague on the American dream. And in that he does resemble Romney.
