DEFIANCE, Ohio — Mitt Romney attacked his opponent, President Obama, in this rural and manufacturing city, on education and trade, passing along a report that Chrysler might move all of its Jeep manufacturing to China, which the company has denied.

“I saw a story today that one of the great manufacturers in this state, Jeep, now owned by the Italians, is thinking of moving all production to China. I will fight for every good job in America, I’m going to fight to make sure trade is fair,” Mr. Romney said.

Mr. Romney’s comments, apparently in reference to the Jeep assembly plant in Toledo, came during an energetic and entertainment-filled rally in the Defiance High School football stadium.

Chrysler Group LLC issued a statement Thursday that “Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China. It’s simply reviewing the opportunities to return Jeep output to China for the world’s largest auto market. U.S. Jeep assembly lines will continue to stay in operation.”

A Romney representative didn’t immediately respond to a message seeking comment on his remarks.

Ahhh, a stellar comparison, nobrain, with the small caveats that what Willard said about Jeep was complete bullshit, what the President said about Willard's plan for the auto industry was true, and the video you posted is deceptive bullshit which was clumsily edited to obfuscate Maddow's correction of Letterman, and his admission that he doesn't know what he's talking about.

MADDOW: I think what the President was saying was "your big idea was that private financing would come in and rescue them". And that was at a time when there was no private financing in this country. The credit markets were absolutely locked. Mr. Romney's own firm, Bain, was asked if you would like to potentially get involved in the financing rescue program for the auto industry and that just didn't exist. So had we gone with Romney's 'let Detroit go bankrupt plan' there would be no auto industry. And I think the President said it with more nuance at the earlier debate...

LETTERMAN: Right

MADDOW: ... and he lost. So he got pointier so it would sound better but maybe in losing the nuance it didn't come out as accurate.
