You'd think that Obama must have some of his pension funds in weapons companies with the way he talks of banning assault style weapons. He did make it clear that he wants another assault weapons ban which is idiotic and then he points at the Aurora shooting as why this should be done. Obama clearly doesn't remember that the perp at Aurora had more than just an AK or AR 15 in hand when he did his deed.
Assault style weapons are not even as strong as your average deer rifle. He talked about automatic style assault weapons as something that citizens should not be able to buy, but forgot that he was giving the same to the Mexican drug cartels which ended up killing a Border Patrol officer and many others. The average American cannot afford a fully automatic assault weapons and your average illegal or criminal will not buy said weapons except for the blackmarket. The blackmarket doesn't prevent Colombine, Virginia Tech, or the Aurora fatalities. An assault weapons ban only makes the public more of a target to the people who are not going to follow the law anyhow.
I do agree with the idea that we should make it harder for mentally ill people to get weapons, but how will HIPPA be overruled in this case? Are psychologists and psychiatrists going to input data on their clients to a national database to prevent such sales? That would have stopped Gabby Giffords from being shot and the Aurora massacre, but nothing else.
Enforce the laws we have on the books. That is all that needs to be done.
