Trump ran up the debt... and we don't even have much to SHOW for it. That's the thing. What'd Trump get for all that money? The infrastructure's still bad. His fabled and stupid "wall" is still not a thing. The rich got big tax cuts but the economy grew at a slightly slower rate than previous afterward, so that just adds to the already-overwhelming mountain of proof that "letting the rich keep more of their money is good for the economy" is just a giant myth (made up by the rich).

And now the Republicans don't want to pay for it because they know their base will stupidly think it was the Dems who spent it and the Dems who defaulted. When you have a base as dumb as the one Republicans have, the impulse to lie to 'em must be overwhelming.

Biden wants to spend a lot, too, but has a big list of things that would actually benefit the country. That's a difference. Trump only helped people who never needed any help. Instead of building the economy up, he just added more weight to the top of it to keep it squished down.

And now the Republican base is fighting hard to keep the economy shut down due to COVID, which is the real reason they don't want to get vaccinated or wear masks. They're in a death-cult to slavishly support Trump at the cost of their own lives if need be. All to "own the libs." It's hard to imagine that level of idiocy, and yet, there they are.
