Trespasser

We enjoyed the day with the granddaughters. We took them to Kohls and got them each new outfits for Christmas, baked cookies, ran with the dogs on the islands, and then went to sing Christmas carols at our historical church. I pretty much over did it, and the girls have school in the morning so my wife took the girls home tonight. I am watching utube poker videos when I hear this low level engine sound. I have security cameras and all of a sudden I see this guy trying to push our automatic gate open. I immediately go out and ask him what the hell he thinks he is doing? He replies that he wanted to camp on the islands tonight. I gave the stare, and then firmly told him to get the hell out of here. He quickly obliges but then I realized something. A few times now we have had trespasers when our Prius is gone. The wife was taking the kids home, and we travel a lot with the Prius, so when we are gone the Prius is gone.......last year we had a canoe dragged down to the river while we were in Florida, and caught people fishing on the property, fish dead where they caught them and just dropped them along the shore.

I think we are going to need to build a substantial gate on our main causeway which will NOT allow people to cross the same over to the islands, or purchase another car and leave the Prius in the driveway. We had some lumber stolen about ten years ago, but nothing since. However, these folks are getting bolder and bolder. I think about conceal and carry and how cowardly as a nation we have become. I could have easily brought my shotgun out when he was trying to force the gate open but even as a member of the walking dead, I just cannot be that big of a wussy. When I cannot scare a trespasser physically, it is time for the box.

Any idea who he was?

He had to be somebody who lives in town and can see when we are gone. He was on a little bitty kids ATV, and some of the drunks who have multiple DUIs, have motorized bikes, golf carts, and ATVs thinking they can get drunked up and drive the off road vehicles and not get another DUI. I told my wife that it looked one of two people who tried to sneak unto the islands about four years ago. We think they are friends of the prior owner's son as he grew up with some kids in the town and they are now in their mid fifties and town drunks. We have quit a few of those. A few years back, one left the town bar and walked home......he was found the next day frozen stiff on the road. The problem is they will homestead on your property if they think they will not be caught. With all the vegetation thinned out, we can see a campfire, and to sleep in a tent in December in Illinois is dangerous.
