The Energy Department has rejected a request from Donald Trump's transition team to list staffers at the department who were engaged in climate policy under the Obama administration.

“The Department of Energy received significant feedback from our workforce throughout the department, including the National Labs, following the release of the transition team’s questions. Some of the questions asked left many in our workforce unsettled,” Energy Department Spokesman Eben Burnham-Snyder said in a statement first reported by the Washington Post. “Our career workforce, including our contractors and employees at our labs, comprise the backbone of DOE (Department of Energy) and the important work our department does to benefit the American people. We are going to respect the professional and scientific integrity and independence of our employees at our labs and across our department."

“We will be forthcoming with all publically-available information with the transition team. We will not be providing any individual names to the transition team," Burnham-Snyder added.

I love this! That's the right thing to do. This will really endear the DOE to the new administration! So glad they are sticking up for their principles.

Agreed, othershoe, but the real day of reckoning will come if/when that doofus Rick Perry takes over the department.

Enjoy it while you can. They are simply delaying the inevitable. Once President Elect Trump is sworn in, they'll soon be out the door which is a good thing for America.

I'd prefer they shut it down... but at minimum fire then all and bring in non political staff at about a quarter of the present size.

Most Civil Service employees are protected to avoid third world political practices. Career employees who are working for America should be independent of political witch hunts. The Republican-controlled House of Representatives Oversight and Government Reform Committee is investigating the practice of burrowing which is a legitimate concern as an outgoing President tries to take political appointees and convert them to civil servants which is wrong because these employees can obstruct the changes Americans voted for with a new President. However, the legitimate concern is that there will be a concerted attempt to destroy historical protections which insulate government employees who provide continuity and independence in the execution of government functions.

I have no problem firing burrowed political appointees, but huge problems with firing civil servants for political reasons. It is wrong. If congress wants to eliminate an entire agency and consolidate function and efficiency......a big thumbs up, but political witch hunts......not so much.

Trump transition team admitted asking for climate change information was wrong. They made a mistake. That is encouraging. It was beginning to sound like a Latin American third world Country with that type of behavior. A transition is never a perfect process, and having the transition team admit they made a mistake is a very positive sign.
