When bad boyz get old

I had dinner with a golf buddy and poker buddy last Friday and will be doing couples dinner with him this Thursday. It is fun to talk to him because he and about four of my friends have become golfing buddies with the original bad boy in the NBA.....Bill Laimbeer. My friend owns a condo in the same building with John Bohner which is way upper end on Marco Island. They all belong to Fidler's Creek and Laimbeer golfs with them.

He is just as intense in everything he does as he was in basketball. When he is playing a golf match he intimidates his partner and says "don't F up.....take this chit seriously. When they are playing poker, he tries to take the game over and insists to argue any rules, and it is Bill's way or the highway. He towers over my friends, but actually has a very good golf game. Well the word is out on him in poker, that he has so much money after 14 years in the NBA, and coming from a wealthy family where he brags he was the first NBA player who made a whole lot less than his dad, and he will try to buy pots because of his deep pockets. I hope to be down there next winter to play some poker with him, but my group of friends has now expanded to about 30 people who play golf together and have fun, but it is fun to see another cranky old guy enjoying semi retirement. He really is a smart guy who had a silver spoon, but worked his asz off and took no crap. Two rings.......and the same tenacity in retirement.

It is way cool for me.....I was a Bull fan and everybody hated this guy. Now, I am learning that he is really a pretty good guy and intense as hell even after he has retired. I am impressed as hell and shared my excitement. I could tell more stories about my friends who actually started with nothing....I mean nothing, and now own factories where he installed a lift and he strips down corvettes down to bare metal saving every screw and working 8 hours a day on the factory floor restoring corvettes while making a million dollars printing some really cool stuff for some well known companies all because he had the determination and hard work to be successful....no silver spoons.....just good people who want to spend time with me.....I am honored to have friends who actually worked and built something from nothing.....the American story.

I am cool. my friends are cool. Big Bill is way cool. I could tell you the fun I had in Vegas with Bob Love playing three card poker, a guy who stuttered and played in the NBA, and then because of the same was working washing dishes for four bucks and hour when he was given a chance for speech classes and a whole new life after basketball where he could get up and just wow a crowd.....incredibly interesting people and stories which could fill these pages.....a cool life ......good friends......and never ending excitement, but a need to impress, not even, but if you were great......just sharing a life's journey with incredible people.....plus I want to take his money in poker....story to come.

I could tell you about playing poker with Jimmy Piersall and listening him tell incredible baseball stories as I took his money at the poker table every time he played with us........he stayed competitive and engaged even though the last time I played with him he was wheel chair bound, but still kicking asz.....no way too much fun......way more to talk about.

Here is a story sure to impress. I had played 54 holes of golf. First 18 started on tips........second 18 we began drinking and played the middle tees, and the last 18 we played the ladies tees and were intoxicated. We went to the 19th hole and drank some more and played pinochle. As we were playing, the local undertaker came through the men's locker room with two blondes. I immediately recognized the one blonde. She was Seka.......A little older, and a few pounds heavier. Two of us were older, and two of the younger guys had no clue who she was......they had been drinking.....way too much and she bends over our table and extends her hand to each of us....I am Seka......I say...I know who you are......."well thank you", and she extends her hand to one of the younger guys who now lives in Biloxi, and says I am Seka.......and being a smart asz he grabs her hands and says I am Jimmy Spate........to which she says.....you don't know who I am.........I could tell you the rest of the story......but you might not be impressed the way this ended.......it certainly did not make a penthouse letter.

I am cool. I do not have any inferiority complex. I do not get jealous with people who have worked and figured out how to make money. I do not get impressed with silver spoons, but I have the experience to tell the difference. I have had the Speaker of the house call me for advise, and I have had the privilege to help people living in homeless shelters. Cool people live and enjoy people. They do not care what others think of them or their friends....because cool people are too busy living to worry about being uncool. I can give you some lessons on being cool. It starts by walking your own path and not following the mob........or worrying about people who do not appreciate life and the characters we cross........I do not know how we could do a cool correspondence course over the internet......I usually issue match books with the information inside on how to sign up for Seaoats cool classes, but I guess you gave up smoking also........

It was way cool.........I went squirrel hunting with the undertaker once, and he could clean a squirrel quicker than your experience with Seka, but now the joke is that I should go to him after I pass......I just respond that if you saw him clean a squirrel you would get cremated also........

What.....you had some bad experiences with whores in your youth......Seka was a star.....Hollywood man.......and right in the men's locker room......way cool.....way funny.......and way drunk.

That is only four steps in the how to be cool class......you should know to be cool requires 12 steps......take my cool course.....and who knows......you may go to your next ballgame in Maritime Park and actually enjoy it.......because cool people go to the park.

BTW I have 37 years with out a drink, one of the best things I ever did..

We agree.....see how easy it is to be cool.......but the Trumpster taught me I need to convince you to take my course......how to be really really cool. Then you can go to Maritime Park and sit in Mr. Studer's sky box and drink lemonade......because cool people turn lemons into lemonade.....but only after they have completed my course.

I seem to be the token Trump of our Forum......I think my wife would agree with that sometimes........however, my course is better than his.

I was never an NBA fan, I don't understand the strategy. My high school PE coach recruited me heavily to play because I was very tall and strong at the time. Rules were different then and I was disqualified which, was okay, because I worked a lot.

Still, I have heard of Bill Laimbeer and know of his achievements.
