After years of being the strongest proponent for the ballpark, I lived long enough to actually attend. It exceeded my wildest dreams of what a beautiful place which has been created by the citizens for the citizens. I saw kids and families just enjoying themselves. The concession lines were incredible as I had a hard time getting a seat, and they wanted to put me in the grass and I explained that I might not be able to get up if they put me in the grass, so they put me with an air force outing. Great families and the kids were having a blast.
Unfortunately some people do not realize that at a ball game you must pay attention. I was along the left field foul line when a Biloxi player ripped one right at me, I had time and believed if I stood up I could snag it.....but sadly my legs are gone, and I could not get up.....it went over my seat at about four feet above my head and hit a 18 year old girl who had dyed her hair purple or red and she took a full frontal face shot. I guess she was one of the air force guys daughter, but I am deeply concerned and guilty that I could not stand because I could have easily broken the velocity of the ball, and probably fractured my now frail hands. My prayers are with the young girl, and what a great group of folks with this air force group. One young man sang the national anthem from their group and he said his hands were literally shaking because he was so nervous.

All the naysayers were so fricking wrong as they took out on a personal vendetta against Mr. Studer. I remember arguing about parking....well I got a three buck parking space and only had to walk about two blocks to buy my ticket. Kids were playing in the playground outside the stadium, and they have a great system of stamping your hand where you can enjoy the bayfront and come back into the game.....the kids had figured out the routine and the playground was full. There were few empty seats.

The truth is this ball park is a cash cow. They are making close to 50k a weekend game pure profit on concessions. The lines were incredible and the foot was priced reasonably for a ball game and the quality was good. The restrooms were clean, and there were plenty of handicap accessible areas for for folks with disabilities to enjoy the game as I saw plenty of wheelchairs. Navy federal had a large group in right field party area, and the grass was absolutely full. The naysayers should be ashamed of themselves.

Oh Seaoat! I should have offered up my two free tickets on the forum yesterday. We were unable to attend. We love the park and the Wahoos. It's a great addition to Pensacola.

I have been to ballparks all over the nation, and few can compare with that the citizens of Pensacola have accomplished. I called my wife and said we have to bring the grandkids to a game. I knew that Pensacola had a great tradition of baseball, but when I see the high school games on a week night with the parking lot full, I should have known the wahoos would have the park full of knowledgeable baseball fans. What an inexpensive fun family night. It was the excitement of the kids which made me so happy. Good baseball play as my son in law was almost playing minor league ball as he played with Curtis Granderson in college and he excelled as their team made the world series tournament twice, and he got to play in some major league parks, but he will love this park. What nice people at the ballgame. Every Pensacola citizen who supported this park should be proud. As to your tickets, I appreciate the offer, but honestly I may have waited too late to attend because I am weakening quickly now and had to leave the game around the fourth inning because I am struggling right now. I keep hoping the next week I will regain a little bit of my strength, but it is just not working out that way, but I am ecstatic that I had the strength to drive myself, park, and walk to my seat.

Seaoat, thank you for sharing this experience with us.  I, too, keep hoping you will regain strength of body, but certainly there's no dearth of strength of character in you.

It's great that you managed to get to a game, even if you couldn't stay for the entire time.  And I hope you won't have another moment's regret for not having been able to stop or slow that ball.  Not your fault!!!

Please take it easy on yourself.

LOL...The truth is this ball park is a cash cow. They are making close to 50k a weekend game pure profit on concessions Your boy Studer makes the money from the concessions, in case you forgot. The CRA is broke and the CMPA is having money issues. But glad you had a good time Play ball...

Nobody is broke. Nobody. Just like missing the boat earlier, you missed again. The concessions will be renegotiated in the next contract, and I remember being laughed at by skipper and somebody whose avatar started with an x....that there would be no profit in concessions, and I argued then that no ball park in America gives 100% of the concessions to a ball team, rather they share revenue, but the knucleheads kept posting that only 50k people total for the season would attend.....some of these folks could not run a lemonade stand yet they were commenting on the success of this park. The taxpayers own this park, and the debt is being paid down as I saw at least 60 people working last night without counting the ball team......I to this day am sure some of the boneheaded stupid naysayers really were working for the team which negotiated a great contract because of the certainty of failure. I would guess that Mr. Studer is making a million profit on this team a year, and at least a quarter of a million a year additional should go to the taxpayers each year in the new contract when the concessions are shared.....nobody would come.....my guess is that there were over five thousand people there, and a profit on concessions of about 10 bucks a person on a weekend night.....broke....too funny.

How much of the debt was paid down last year by the Blue Wahoos? Remember the CMPA pays the taxes and the Power bill for the BallPark. How much does the Blue Wahoos pay each year? Including the ticket sur charge?

I cannot wait to go to a football game this fall if I am still here....I was told that a football field could not fit, I then explained that Maritime park is bigger than Wrigley where the bears played for years.....parking....hell there will be some kind of tail gating and spill over to downtown.........I remember posting about the Kane County Cougars where the naysayers like here wanted to hang public officials.....they have made close to 10 million dollars for taxpayers over the last 25 years and have provided inexpensive family fun....and the guy they wanted to hang...a few years later they named the stadium after him.....naysayers need to learn what they are talking about because foot in mouth is a hard way to go through life. Mr. Studer's PNJ project will be another home run, and will add to a dynamic and growing downtown business incubator. I have a 27 year old helping me now with two degrees who cannot find work....well young people are going to be able to stay and enjoy this great area once the multipliers and quality of life keep improving. Thank you to all the elected officials who got this one right.

LOL  Good luck on getting a ticket for the foot ballgame.  It aint for the public..."The situation we’re in, is that you probably will not be able to walk up and get a ticket for any game in our first season".With less than 3,500 seats available at Blue Wahoos Stadium.  Wow!!  VEry goodhttp://www.pnj.com/story/sports/college/university-west-florida/2016/03/15/want-uwf-football-tickets-better-hurry-up-pony-up/81809834/

Tell the 27 year old year there maybe a part time opening at the Blue Wahoos.  I hear they pay as much as 9 per hour.  LOL

“They say, ‘Hey I am coming to the first game’ and I would say, how are you getting tickets to the first game? They say, ‘I am probably just going to walk up the day of the game and buy them.’

“And I will tell them, that is probably not going to happen" From the PNJ

I pay him ten bucks an hour and he has gone back to school, but the folks working last night looked happy and glad to be working. They buy groceries, cars, appliances, and those folks hire people to service their customers....and the multipliers continue. I see help wanted signs everywhere, and the ball park has been a huge economic multiplier......wait until they cut a deal for a casino on old stinky.......it is going to happen and you heard it here first.....I do not ask him to do anything which I will not do.....and I am doing ten buck an hour work now, and could go back home and work for 250 an hour......but I would hardly be moving, and sometime ten buck an hour and happy is not all that bad.......especially if it keeps you alive. The ballpark is full of life and hope. The smiles on the children told me all I needed to know, as folks had good clean American fun at a beautiful ballpark.

You really do not get it.....exactly what real estate taxes were lost? How exactly did the taxpayers lose. Tax increment financing of development infrastructure uses the taxes of the new building to pay down the bonds for the improvement. How is a vacant lot taxes for twenty years a loss to the taxpayers, when jobs are created, and the schools and other taxing bodies are getting the appreciated taxes.....no wonder folks have misconceptions about how things work.

What kind and how many jobs do you think a apartment complex creates?

What kind and how many jobs do you think a apartment complex creates?

It creates hundreds of service jobs and incubators for small business. Affordable housing in downtowns are critical to the quality of life in downtowns in America. Once a critical mass is reached in rooftops, you get grocery stores, and other retail establishments which now fill strip malls and other commercial space, but the same pumps capital into a downtown. I have said this for years....I would live in downtown Pensacola in a second if my circumstance were different.....it is a beautiful city with great leadership who have the foresight to build what had decayed.

The answer on the EDATE request was less than 20 full time jobs.  Oats you amaze me.  One minute you are tell us how much you love nature and enjoy building things on your acreage and  have having your family enjoy what you have built.  Then you say you would love to live down town in a small Apartment.  LOL   Too funny...You will say anything.... The city has great leadership? Are you talking about Hayward and the City Council?

Both and those who came before who had the vision to infuse capital into an aging rust belt inner city. It has been a stunning success in just the last ten years. I spend all my time in nature, but to enjoy a museum, a restaurant, or a ball game, it requires that I get in a car. My love of nature is only equaled by civilization and culture........and not the knuckledragging pizza wasteland I find in most the area. To be able to walk to your destinations is very appealing and some of my happiest years were without a car walking to everything in college. I am limited now in regard to range, but sometime on the islands I feel isolated as I am six miles from civilization, and although I have been living out of a shell gas station in my latest adventure.......it sure as hell is no way to live.

I have to admit I find it somewhat humorous to watch the posers play their silly games. Hard for me to fathom why people would want to live in little box's on top of each other. I guess the desire to conform and live a regulated live appeals to some people.
