A Florida woman died after being arrested and forcibly removed from a hospital where she had gone to seek help for stomach pains. Her family claims that she was mistreated by police and hospital staff, who they say refused to provide proper medical care.

Barbara Dawson, 57, was rushed by ambulance to Calhoun Liberty Hospital in Blountstown, Florida on Sunday evening. She was admitted around 10:30 p.m., treated and cleared by hospital staff, and discharged hours later.

Dawson felt, however, that she needed to remain in the hospital for continued care, telling hospital staff that she "still was not feeling well," relatives told the Tallahassee Democrat. Nurses disagreed, and then “banned” Dawson from the hospital, her family said.

When she refused to leave the hospital after being evicted, hospital staff called police around 4:45 Monday morning.

.....Less than two hours after police were called, Dawson was dead due to a blood clot in her lung, the autopsy found.

Huge law suit.....talking with family today and said she probably threw a clot. The hospital, no matter what, will be at fault. Always listen to the patient...I hope they did the proper xrays, scan, and blood work and had it reviewed by a specialist prior to discharge.

Typical of the hospital to blame the nurse for caring out an order.

I really feel ER care has gotten sloppy over the years.

Let me guess ...

... she was poor, black, and under insured in Crackerville, Florida ...

... the bean counters saw her as a loss and called the cops ...

... the cops saw a black person failing to comply and reacted aggressively.

Now, she's dead.

Yep, just another day in post-racial America.

"They did their best trying to save her,” said Ruth Attaway, the 25-bed hospital's administrator and chief executive. “Our staff was very aggressive with her treatment. They did everything they could.”

Should have done this to begin with....big mistake.

Sal, I'm old white and insured....and I have had the ED make mistakes in my care.

Mrs. Maroni, we do sincerely apologize for the mix up.  We accidentally gave you a private room with a 70" LED TV when you clearly asked for a 60".  Please allow us to make this right by comping your entire bill and upgrading you to nightly lobster and caviar.

You're a retired nurse.

Did you correct their mistakes?

25 beds? That's barely a hospital. And without knowing the medical facts and having them peer reviewed, there's no way to determine that this woman's death was caused by a hospital error.

Kerrigan, Estes, and Rankin will be circling if they are not already there.

I did...but my diagnosis was not accurate, I was discharged without pain medication, referred to the wrong doctor,  and I was not given the necessary equipment. I was in too much pain and too uncomfortable to argue....I told my kids to get me the fuck out of there.

Bull Shit!

How charming, as usual. Someone has to look at her chart and correlate it with the actions taken by medical staff. It's certainly not open and shut. Or are you denying that 25 beds is a small number?

Has nothing to do with 25 beds. It has to do with the on duty physician. She was misdiagnosed .....she threw a clot and died.

Since when do nurses diagnose? Especially when they haven't even seen the patient or the chart? You are the one who's full of it.

I did...

In response, did they call the cops and have you forcibly evicted?

See the difference?

I know you don't.

All the fucking time...if they are good enough. Triage and patient assesments comes to mind....of course unlike doctors they don't have to prove it. Nurses are the first ones to come in contact with the patients in most situations other than floor nurses. Hell before triage nurses the ward clerks in the ER diagnosed patients.....they made the immediate decision if a patient needed to go straight into the treatment area....If so they wheeled them to the back.

The article stated the woman had a blood clot....that was a big tip off.

Plus many times the patient isn't around to examine but the chart is....I have made quite a few assessments just by reviewing the chart.

Anything else you would like to argue about with me?

That's two f-bombs in a matter of hours.

Are you drinking a box of wine?

Good God no!  LOL.....I can't imagine drinking wine out of a box. I hate boxed juice and Capri sun.

I did buy a cheap bottle of Pinot  Grigio today....$4.48

No....15 years in the ER and 15 years working for a surgeon....I have never known of any ER calling the police to remove a patient that didn't feel well enough to go home.

I have... there are serial problem patients. Particularly despicable of you to attack Joni personally when she knows this topic intimately.
