It is incredible how many people in Southern La are having to move because of loss of land south of NO.....They are moving behind the walls as entire vibrant shrimp and fishing communities are running out of land as Oak trees once on land are now submerged......climate change.....Bobby could only be governor in LA......cuz IQ is low enough for his ignorant butt to survive....a candidate for President.....oh my......please do not think the rest of us went to LA schools.

That article clearly states that it was hurricanes that destroyed the marsh land. It'll rebuild... it has an inexhaustible supply of silt flowing into it. The fishermen are afraid of another hurricane with the marsh protection depleted. That low lying ground was very good at grounding out hurricanes... not so much for the time being. Nature has just as much ability to restore as it does destroy... these processes have taken place through millennia... and will continue long after we're gone. Don't forget your nightlights tonite.

There's sea-level rise (estimates of 3 feet or more in the next 100 years), the natural sinking of the delta (about 1 inch a year in places), ongoing damage from oil drilling (more than 10,000 miles of oil canals crisscross the coast in highway-straight lines), and repeated hurricane damage (six hurricanes, including Katrina, have ravaged Louisiana's coast in the past decade).

Hurricanes created the erosion... sea levels have been much higher and much lower in the last few thousand years.

" June 30, 1989, Associated Press: U.N. OFFICIAL PREDICTS DISASTER, SAYS GREENHOUSE EFFECT COULD WIPE SOME NATIONS OFF MAP–entire nations could be wiped off the face of the earth by rising sea levels if global warming is not reversed by the year 2000. Coastal flooding and crop failures would create an exodus of ‘eco-refugees,’ threatening political chaos,” said Brown, director of the New York office of the U.N. Environment Program. He added that governments have a 10-year window of opportunity to solve the greenhouse effect."

If this prediction were true the entire delta, the levees, and the city of no would be under water without a single hurricane.

When I was in grad school at UWF in 1991-1992, working toward an MS in Biology and Coastal Zone Studies (completed in 1992), I took a course titled Coastal Morphology and Processes. It was taught by a renowned professor who had earlier retired from a long career at LSU, studying and teaching the forces that affect coastlines (wind and waves, hurricanes, all of that...). The late Doctor James P. Morgan drove us hard. We spent each Wednesday afternoon surveying the 1 mile or so of beach UWF owns on Santa Rosa Island. He posted survey data on the walls from the previous 15 years or so and told us to "Analyze it." We had to write an exhaustive paper on our analyses.

He poured information into our heads that only an expert in the field could, and gave very difficult examinations to see if we were getting it. Dr. Morgan would have told us if he felt the seas were going to rise 3 feet during the 21st Century. He said nothing about this, and oddly, man made climate change was not even murmured in his class by him or by any student.

Notions that the seas are going to rise 3 feet during this century amount to uncertain speculation at best.

Duhhh....

Think about it, THAT'S WHY THERE ARE LEVIES...NEW ORLEANS WAS BUILT BELOW SEA LEVEL.

What part of that is difficult for greenies to comprehend.

If you think making us give money to politicians for the right to breathe you then can stop global warming you are a really big dummy. Maybe ask the Communist Chinese to go solar. That would help. I am sure they will listen....

So...ONCE AGAIN you have nothing, no facts to support your "position" ONCE AGAIN, simply childish insults.

Seems to me that it is you who should stand corrected and move on.

Then, as your LAST RESORT and as is typical of you, you run like a scared girl and make a feeble effort to change the subject in order to emphasize your anti-Semitism and bigotry.

The Greenies here trust the stupidity of their supporters and economic backers to ignore historic facts!

They actually wish we would believe that the water is rising around New Orleans, as if the Gulf of Mexico would pick THAT AREA for it to rise and no where else. YES, they really do wish that to be true! NO REALLY! They believe, so everyone else should as well, that if you fill a pool, the water, majestically will rise at one end for no reason.

New Orleans Is Sinking

New Orleans May Sit In The Gulf Of Mexico In 90 Years

For 300 years, the sea has been closing in on New Orleans. As the coastal erosion continues, it is estimated the city will be off shore in 90 years. Even in good weather, New Orleans is sinking. As the city begins what is likely to be the biggest demolition project in U.S. history, the question is, can we or should we put New Orleans back together again?

Life has been returning to high and dry land on Bourbon Street, but to find the monumental challenge facing the city you have to visit neighborhoods you have never heard of. On Lizardi Street, 60 Minutes took a walk with the men in charge of finishing what Katrina started.

He is a smart guy, but anybody who denies what is happening after looking at the time lapse photos..... it is not about intelligence, it is about integrity and being too stubborn to admit they are wrong.

Actually, the Chinese are attacking global warming and the effects of the burning of fossil fuels with laws much more aggressive than ours. They know the effects of pollution are real. As things stand, they'll produce a higher rate of renewable energy sources than we will within the next two years.

It seems clear to me that those people who scream the loudest about the threat of global warming being a false premise, really do believe the costs of cutting down the use of oil and coal would destroy our economy. The truth is, the renewable energy industries offer many more jobs than does oil or coal -- and the costs of renewable energy have dropped significantly and in some cases present a savings over using fossil fuels. Renewable energy sources will continue to drop.

Ask yourself, why has the demise of fossil fuel energy sources become a political football? Don't both republican children and democrat children need to breath clean air?

ZVUGKTUBM

ZVUGKTUBM

The demise of fossil fuels will be natural during the 21st Century because of depletion. This should please climate change proponents, and is the real reason why a full-court press needs to be made for the energy alternatives.

The current glut of oil in the world is transitory. Wait until the late 2020s, when Saudi Arabia can no longer hide the fact that its reserves are mostly gone. In 2010, the president of Brazil's Petrobas declared that the world would need to find a new Saudi Arabia every 3 years just to meet expected world energy demand in the coming years. This is not going to happen, and not because climate change proponents won't allow it. The petroleum is not there to be found.

The real cost of oil is well over $100 per barrel. OPEC countries are currently squabbling among themselves about how they are losing their shirts trying to produce oil at under $50 per barrel. The price has to go back up at some point, and more expensive oil is going to once again make the alternatives look even more attractive.

The movement away from fossil-fuels will not be turned back, with or without climate change driving the issue--those folks are adding more wind to that sail, for sure.
