Your story broke my heart, Hallmark.
How hopeless can we be that we would do this to a husband and his dying wife.

I don't know why this didn't grab my attention earlier, but you are so right. Anti-venom may not be a drug that is used as routinely as say, tylenol or Amoxil. But you can bet your bottom dollar that pharmacy companies and health insurance companies get corporate welfare. Companies need to make a profit, but not the obscene profits that they rake in. They are all about making money, not remotely about making people well. For profit hospitals are every bit as bad.Bob wrote:I realize all the fox news and talk radio believers here are convinced that the only problem with america is welfare bums.
And I agree that welfare bums are a serious problem. But they aren't the only parasites in this country because the white collar welfare is just as rampant.

Top administration officials cut backroom deals with the nation’s top drug companies to win support for President Obama’s health care overhaul, threatening them with steeper taxes if they resisted and promising a better financial deal for the industry if they acquiesced, according to internal documents released Thursday by House Republicans.
In some of the key deals, Mr. Obama agreed to drop his long-standing support for letting Americans buy cheaper foreign prescription drugs — something the pharmaceutical industry vehemently opposed — and the drugmakers promised to mount a public campaign to sell the public on the health care legislation

Im aware of that sir
but i bet people were not aware of the deal to limit them.
but that wasnt even the whole point to my post. over and over again i see people attacking hospitals. its not hospitals making all this money they claim. its the phrarmacueticle companies, all the other companies that make products for hospitals. all those other well paying jobs. You forget the supply side/cost.
then you have hospitals. all those middle class workers. I dont even know but i would bet that our middle class is made up by a huge proportion of healthcare workers. so when your attacking hospitals, your talking about making the middle class worker suffer a little bit more.
also, if they want to gripe about how much someone is making or charging, this is the perfect oportunity for them to gripe. but its funny because you never see them gripe about this topic? my guess is most of em are on some sort of pain medication and are grateful to the evil greedy killing our country off phrarmacueticle companies.

Excellent point! And you are correct about who has the big profit margin.
The amount a hospital may charge a patient is determined by the The Joint Commission (TJC), formerly the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Different hospitals charge are determined on many factors including but not limited to indigent population, types of services and specialties provided as well as geographic location.

absolutly and you bring up a good point. The fees are regulated already. And no one ever pays the so called "list price" unless they are wealthy and paying with cash, and usually even then they would get a cash discount. But you know whats NOT regulated? supply cost<my point again >. operation cost is extremly high. I spent $75 yesterday on a 2 ounce piece of metal.
I had a long conversation years ago about this with PB, when the gov health plan was first announced. I said it wouldnt work and it wont because you cant regulate one side and not the other side. It will just make the one side<healthcare providers> go broke. but first they will cut cost on service side. which is where we are at now.
