That’s not just some feminist wet dream – science is behind this one. If you let liberals talk long enough, they’ll start saying a lot of stupid things. No advertisements soliciting their stupidity are needed.
A top EPA official said that the EPA’s “philosophy” is to “crucify” and “make examples” of oil and gas companies — just as the Romans crucified random citizens in areas they conquered to strike fear in their enemies. You can imagine what would happen if a conservative said anything like this. But stupid statements that are actually policy statements are the stock and trade of liberal ideology. They come with the territory.
The latest stupid liberal trick is the claim by PBS's Tavis Smiley that poor people don’t want to have what Romney have. Here’s the exchange between Smiley and Sean Hannity:
Sean Hannity: Look, you know, it was Barack Obama who said, “It's not red America, blue America, it's the United States of America.” I don't like this division this, this wedge, Tavis, that the president's using, and the 99 versus the 1 percent, the rich and the rest of us. Somehow it indicates that that's a bad thing that people are successful.
Tavis Smiley: Not at all. Mitt Romney’s wrong when he thinks that we are engaging in what he calls the politics of envy. No one who happens to be poor wants what Mr. Romney has. They just want to move beyond a poverty of opportunity in this country to an opportunity to play on a level playing field.
This is one of the stupidest liberal tricks I’ve ever heard. Who’s playing the lottery more — people like Mitt Romney or middle class and poor people? I would like to see the statistics on Smiley’s claim. Here’s the only question you would need to ask: "Would you like to be rich like Mitt Romney? According to Smiley, the answer would be, “No. I just want to move beyond poverty.” I suspect that the answer wold be, "Hell yes!"
Given that the majority of poor are not going to be millionaires, the best thing for them is to play on a level playing field. What’s the best way to accomplish a level playing field? Free the economy from government control! Rich people create jobs. When governments interfere with that truth, rich people have to cut jobs to pay for the costs of government intrusion.
Getting government out of the economy raises all boats. Because of a multitude of differences, not all the boats are the same size. People like Smiley want all boats to rise as long as they are the same size.
Here's the news: Gross domestic product expanded at a 2.2 percent annual rate in the first quarter. The White House calls the report "encouraging."
Now here's the other news: GDP dropped from the previous quarter, when it was 3.0 percent annual growth, equalling a decline of about 26 percent in one fiscal quarter.
The spin: At least it's going in the right direction, White House officials said, meaning anything higher than zero. It could have been worse -- some people were expecting 1.5 percent. The economy just needs a little more work to get back on track. At least consumer spending is up.
The news they buried: Consumer spending is up largely due to higher gasoline and food costs -- in other words, spending on things you can't not spend on. Also, a big drain on the GDP is an ongoing reduction of defense spending. Business spending is also down for the first time since 2009.
Counterpoint: Consumers did buy more cars in the first quarter than they have in four years.
Counter-counterpoint: In large part, that's due to people being on waiting lists for Japanese cars, supplies of which were disrupted last year by the tsunami, not people buying American cars.
What you'll find at the end of the news stories, if at all: A separate consumer spending index found personal spending rose at a 2.4 percent rate, double the fourth quarter.
The bomb THEY don't want you to know about: Even stripping out energy costs, personal consumption expenditures are above the Fed's 2 percent inflation target.
That 2 percent mark was set by the Fed as the point beyond which the economy would need to be slowed down by raising interest rates.
Raising interest rates would tie an anchor around the economy, which has been struggling to get its feet under it ever since President Obama took office.
Considering Obama's performance, you can't help but wonder if the prospect of further tanking the economy isn't what the White House finds so "encouraging."

If the S&P closes at a record high on Friday, this prediction of TEOs will be the end all, unparalleled, unequaled, undisputed dumbest prediction from a right-wing voter in the history of this forum...for the next five minutes following that closing bell, at least.
And given the fact that we have had predictions like the one below, as well as many others, that is saying quite a lot:

Looks like the market erased 1.18% of that 3% today. The S&P is now roughly 1.9% below it's all time high.
Meanwhile, TEO has gone on record calling for maximum chaos, crippled market indices, martial law, the closing of this forum, etc. etc. IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD ON OR BEFORE 11/01/15!
