Jameis Winston was officially been named the starting quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, per head coach Lovie Smith. Smith confirmed that Winston has won the job at a press conference on Friday afternoon.

He reminds me somewhat of a young Ben Roethlisberger with respect to his size and arm strength (and aggression towards women); and at the same time he has a gunslinger mentality like Brett Favre, so he will be turnover prone.

For his first season, I predict that the Bucs will go 5 - 11.  He will play the entire season and finish with roughly 3,400 yards passing, 56% completion, 15 TD, 16 Ints, and one sexual battery accusation.

Lovie is a defensive genius.  He has never made the QB position work for him.  Maybe he can break a huge failure in his resume.....because I think he will need the resume in two years if this does not work.

Aggression towards women? Oh please!

Now that Winston has left FSU, I am waiting to see which team in the ACC will beat the 'Noles this coming season. Will it be Miami, or possibly Clemson?

For one thing, Jimbo has a bit of a discipline problem, with his players having difficulty staying out of trouble:

I like to tease our forum FSU fans, so please forgive my comments from above.

There was a very good article about Jameis Winston in the PNJ today. The Bucs are sold on him, lock stock and barrel. They have confidence that he is ready to lead their offense. I am very happy for him.

I don't normally follow pro-football (love the college game, however). I will definitely watch the Bucs first game, against the Tennessee Titans. Jameis will be matched up against Marcus Mariota again for that one. It should be good.

I can't wait for football to start again. It is the only sport I follow throughout the year.

The ohio state qb job will be interesting to watch. My msu spartans are #6... but play #5 oregon early again. Last year we lost to them away after playing a terrible second half... this year is at home and they graduated their qb. Should be a good game.

That's funny! Joannie, I KNOW you are a sports fan and that you love football. I hope all of the teams you root for win their games and bring you some great excitement this coming season. I am sure we will be talking about it.

We are nearing the time of year where I spend more time reading the Sports page than the rest of the PNJ.

And next year, we will be able to start following the UWF Argos....  I can see them now.... Playing a FBS team for the big payday so they can boost their program. Who knows, Division 1 may be in their future some day.

For the last few years I have been able to talk Direct TV into huge discounts for the NFL package....already chomping at the bit waiting 30 some days to kick-off. It gets hard picking a favorite team when I have many favorite players.

I don't do Direct TV. I keep this page open on Saturday:

I use it to monitor the scores, and then sometimes tune into games if they look interesting. You can even follow games play by play, and I have done this a few times rather than watch the game on TV. Razz

But, I will agree with you: I start getting excited around the 1st of August. Game play is coming very soon!

I want to see what Harbaugh has done with Michigan, I love seeing them lose. Been a state fan since I was kid. Always bet Ohio against Michigan which pissed off most of my family and some friends.
