One day, the mortar is going to go off prematurely in the launcher's face, or a rocket is going to go astray, and head for the roof of a house. That kind of thing never enters the minds of the idiots who go over to Wilcox and dump hundreds of dollars for the fireworks they will then bring back across the AL/FL state line.

Z...we also had neighborhood fireworks commandos. Thankfully we had a light rain shower and things were wet. Lots of sparks landing on my roof.

There are two large rocket bodies on my roof that need to be retrieved. Several smaller ones were out in the yard. I don't think my neighbor will sweep the mess he made from the street--paper bits everywhere. I could ask him to get the rocket bodies off my roof, but the wife said he might trip and fall and then we are liable for his injuries. Next year I could demand he make sure the mortar is pointed away from my house and threaten to call the cops if spent rocket bodies start hitting my property; but the wife said we should not turn our neighbors of 25 years into mortal enemies.
I wish the FDLE would send agents to the Wilcox, AL fireworks store and record Florida license plate numbers in the parking lot. License plate numbers and vehicle descriptions would be radioed ahead to state troopers waiting just across the state line. The troopers would intercept the cars loaded down with fireworks just as they cross back into Florida. Rather than arrest the buyers, they would simply confiscate their contraband and issue a warning that future stops could lead to an arrest.
