What's this? Newswatcher cozying up to Rahm in a labor dispute? Politics do make for some strange bedfellows.

Not at all surprising, former Chief of Staff to President Barack Hussein Obama and his failed policies, Mayor Rahm Emanuel now is making a total disaster out of Chicago too.

Shootings and murders in one of the countries Cities with the toughest gun laws is breaking records. Mayor Emanuele has begged the gang bangers to PLEASE NOT SHOOT THE CHILDREN.... At the same time he has asked one of the most racist, bigoted organizations in the country to help patrol the streets headed by Minister Louis Farrakhan.

From last year in Chicago:

Chicago teacher on tax hike: "Give up the bucks!"
http://tinyurl.com/3xrm4dr

.
National Education Association General Counsel Bob Chanin stated in July 2009.

Chanin: "It is not because we care about children. And it is not because we have a vision of a great public school for every child. NEA and its affiliates are effective advocates because we have power. And we have power because there are more than 3.2 million people who are willing to pay us hundreds of millions of dollars in dues...."

Pretty much says it all

President Ronald Reagan had the correct solution for the illegal Air Traffic Controllers strike.

You have to be certified to teach and have a professional license.

Anyhow, most administrators in Santa Rosa County barely make 76k. Sheesh. I'd be happy with a 3% raise.

There are more issues than dollars and cents. Chicago teachers have the shortest work day in America.....or close to the shortest. The mayor wanted to increase the teaching time by 16% and only offered 2% compensation......the teachers say it is not the money, and than in primary grades they are seeing class loads of 30 kids. My third, fourth, and fifth grades all had mid 30s so I understand first second and third, but class size was not a problem when inclusion was not an issue, but today a 35 class size with inclusion is chaos.

The other issue is since the late 80s teachers have diligently paid their contributions, but government skated because the investments were kicking butt. Now with the markets down those gaps in government matching funds have teacher pensions in real crisis where they are only funded to 60%. Rahm did not create the structural problems, and he is taking on the work rules which mean a teacher will have bigger classes, evaluations with teeth, and no answer to how they will get their pensions. The strike was a very poor choice, but there is great distance between the sides, and on this one the Mayor is mostly right.

Guess they would not have agreed to work like teachers in Santa Rosa who have no planning period except before school and work all periods of the day without a break. LOL. That has been happening multiple years now and no pay raise, even step raise, in sight.

Teachers in SRC are also working in classrooms that are full with AC that cannot be set lower than 73 degrees. Talk about a great learning environment. Not. You either sweat or freeze depending upon the day and the season of the year. In this time of the year my room is filled with moisture until the AC kicks on. Any papers, desks etc are covered in the AM when I come into my classroom. In the winter it stays fairly cold most of the day because the thermostat is on the wall facing the sun and the sun hits it making sure it never kicks on either. Air flows through the vents in the AC either making the room hotter or cooler than need be, again, depending on the season.

All this is supposed to save money. Haven't seen any of that savings in a raise since 2008. Admin got three raises last year.

There has to be a real discussion in America on how we can do a better job teaching our kids. When we ignore teachers, when we politicize the classrooms, and when teachers are regularly making over 100k and a starting teacher is making 40k, there really needs to be introduced the concept of limits. However, taking planing periods away from teachers is like chain sawing our forests and not having a plan to plant new trees.

We have a mess. Rahm is not my favorite person because I believe his ties with big Pharm was why 900 billion was left on the table and why Americans are suffering greatly because they cannot pay for their medicines. Nope, my wife was a damn good teacher. She had a great career and kicked asz on standardized scores, and parents and kids loved her, but she also has seen how good teachers have been strangled in the last decade with dictates from above, from issues of inclusion, and playing around with the curriculum by people who do not know what they are doing.....We start by listening to our teachers, and we also must have the courage to tell them that there are limits. Ed Schultz thinks there should be a blank check......he is wrong.....SR County pays subsistence wages and thinks there is more blood which can be squeezed from rocks.....no we need to listen and communicate....there are solutions, and as much as I dislike Rahm........he never was a coward, and he is taking on some big dogs right now.....and the children of Chicago, and for that matter the children of this nation need the dialogue to continue.

sounds to me like those teachers are a bunch of lazy asses and boo hoo you mean they only get 60% matching pensions...more than any private co that i know of. from the salary's that someone said they make and this info, id still stand on let em walk. there are plenty of certified teachers in this country who would love a $70,000, short days, 60% matching oension job.

i know that. one of my best freinds is a teacher right there in your little town of pcola.

there are teachers all over who need jobs. and anyone with a bachelors degree can become certified very easy to teach. the unemployment lines are filled with people with bachelors degrees right now.

A scab (slang) is someone who crosses the picket line in order to work for the employer.

This creates a volatile situation for all involved - the picketers, the employer and the person who crosses the picket line to work.

I'm not sure how greatly this will affect K-12... but it will... there is an education bubble coming. i don't know why it is being ignored... i guess we won't learn. the student loan/debt is daunting... pensions are upside down... tuitions are skyrocketing. i wonder who will get bailed out?

The "Rats" that I posted are a warning that the work site is under protest. Very serious business. My son(non union) was involved in a very violent strike in Illinois a couple of years ago.

Where in your demented mind did you get that from?....Rahm wants to settle it quickly with the UNIONS!...A 16% pay raise and an average salary of $76,000 before benefits....What a bunch of GREEDY Liberals!...Putting their desire for WEALTH over the needs of America's Children!...Children are being neglected in order for the teachers and their union to make money...HOW UNDEMOCRAT!!!!....And the most funny....Who's backyard is this and which party has run this city....

If you're not siding with Rahm, why are you using his fake numbers? The latest deal that's been proposed is a four year deal with a 3% increase the first year and 2% increases for the other three years of the contract. Do the math. Also, the average pay for Chicago teachers is $55-60K, not the $76K number Rahm produced, which you eagerly swallowed with relish. And, that number includes teachers with seniority, so most teachers are making less. Further, the city is asking for a 20% increase in the length of school days.

Oh yes, you most certainly are in bed with Rahm Emmanuel because you think that this somehow casts a bad light on Obama. Wingnut logic really is fascinating.

Only you would think about being in bed with Rahm...and hasn't he worked his magic for the city of Chicago..much like his mentor in DC has for the country..The numbers used were from news articles stating a 16% increase and average salary of $76,000. if there's a problem speak to your media outlets...they are not my numbers...but again WHAT A BUNCH OF GREEDY LIBERALS...walking away from students for a financial gain for themselves...Chicago children will go hungry from missing their free meals...so Democrats Hate Children and Democrats want to starve children....Rahm may not be so different that his mentor...Democrats have run Chicago and now besides killing each other they aren't going to school...

So, the best way to nurture and educate our nation's future is with poorly paid people working longer hours with less benefits?

And, you support school lunch programs now?

Are you that dense or are your comments designed to be comedic?...Not so fun to have baseless allegations thrown...The examples given would have been in almost every newspaper if there would have been a republican mayor or president...It was the dems that used the lunch program rhetoric against republicans...well guess it's you Dems that want ot starve and abuse children!...
