Internal emails show Clinton got detailed intel on 'planned' Benghazi hit
Published May 22, 2015

WASHINGTON – Internal State Department emails in the aftermath of the Benghazi terror attack show then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton received detailed information indicating the strike was planned by well-trained fighters, yet her office continued to push the narrative days later that it began "spontaneously."

The messages were among 296 emails released Friday by the State Department, in the first batch of emails to be made public from Clinton's tenure as secretary of state. Totaling 896 pages, the emails show a series of Libya dispatches Clinton received from a confidant, as well as the barrage of messages among her and her aides after Sept. 11, 2012.

Those messages depict the rapidly changing understanding of what happened at the U.S. compound that night, and the administration's internal struggle to settle on a public narrative.

As previously reported, confidant Sidney Blumenthal fired off two memos in the two days after the attack. But the full email release shows he gave a highly detailed picture of what "sources" said had happened that night. Initially, on Sept. 12, he sent Clinton an email linking the attacks to anger over an anti-Islam Internet video which had triggered protests across the region.

The former deputy director of the CIA insisted on Wednesday that he didn't edit the widely debunked talking points on the 2012 Benghazi attack due to political pressure to protect President Barack Obama and onetime secretary of state Hillary Clinton.

In a rare open session, Mike Morell offered a lengthy defense of his actions and the work of the spy agency in the politically charged aftermath of the 11 September 2012 assault on the diplomatic mission in Libya. Four Americans, including US ambassador Chris Stevens, were killed in two separate terror attacks over a chaotic period of several hours.

Morell deleted references to al-Qaida in versions of the talking points that were used by Susan Rice, then US ambassador to the United Nations, in a series of Sunday talk show appearances. Republicans have accused the Obama administration of trying to mislead the American people about an act of terrorism in the heat of the presidential campaign.

In his testimony, Morell said he was deeply troubled by allegations made by lawmakers and some in the media "that I inappropriately altered and influenced CIA's classified analysis and its unclassified talking points about what happened in Benghazi, Libya in September 2012 and that I covered up those actions."

"These allegations accuse me of taking these actions for the political benefit of President Obama and then secretary of state Clinton. These allegations are false," Morell said.

He said he and the agency could have done a better job, but he dismissed suggestions that the CIA "cooked the books" in the assessment of the attack.

The intelligence community's talking points, compiled for members of Congress, suggested the attack stemmed from protests in Cairo and elsewhere over an anti-Islamic video rather than an assault by extremists. Five days after the attack, Rice relied on the talking points.

Rice described the attack as a "horrific incident where some mob was hijacked, ultimately, by a handful of extremists."

Congressman Mike Rogers, the chairman of the committee, said the White House used the talking points "to perpetuate its own misguided political agenda".

"The White House wants to ignore reality and perpetuate the fallacy that al-Qaida and other Islamic extremists are on the verge of defeat," Rogers said.

A year and a half after the assault, multiple congressional committees have investigated and reported on the attacks, largely faulting the State Department for a lack of security at the diplomatic mission.

The earlier committee findings are clear.......Nobody in the White House or the Secretary of State, or the Military did anything which contributed or caused the death of the Americans. A big Duh to anybody who thinks that all intelligence agencies were not getting daily risk assessments in Libya which came to the conclusion that it was a dangerous place. Chris prior to Mr. K's death took great risks to get tribal respect, and those risks were not eliminated after Mr. K's death. It was a battlefield which the goal of eliminating the terrorist regime which had the blood of American strewn all over Scotland was finally accomplished by those very risks Chris was taking. There is nothing here, but I wish this scrutiny would be applied to each and every death in Iraq and Afghanastan.......let Gomer start reviewing each death and who was responsible.....please.....it is necessary to stop the war profiteers from getting the scardy cats into a tizzy.

Now it is known that they knew ahead of the plan and did nothing. To make it worse, Hillary Clinton slept through the Benghazi security briefing the next morning.

They knew that for over a year our assets were at risk before and after Mr. K was disposed, and Chris was the one who was taking those risks as the earlier committee reports made this clear. Mr. Markle wants politicians on top of multi million personnel in the intelligence community, state, and military to be micro managed by constitutional officers......ignorance is too kind of a word for this idiocy, and an active CIA operation lead by Chris is the only reason this nonsense about Benghazi has survived because the folks who are trying politicize this incident know full well most of the operations were classified and cannot be disclosed, which also was clearly set forth in the earlier reports.

Mr. Markle's yellow jacket world thinks that the owner of a eight person franchise will micro manage employees and that there is no such thing as line of command and independent operations from those up the chain of command.......this is incredibly ignorant of how government runs and the propaganda is attempting to utilize ignorance and fiction to create an illusion. Fortunately for America, the vast majority of Americans are simply not that ignorant. There is NOTHING new and the prior committee reports have covered the material.

Considering that none of the 6,578 republican presidential candidates have a chance in hell of defeating Hillary, what choice do conservative trolls like Markle and War Hero  have except to pretend that Benghazi was all Hillary's fault? ....  LOL

The truth of the matter is, semi-demented poster Markle is scared speechless that Hillary will run. He knows it will be a landslide victory for her if she does run, so he is hoping that she somehow might not make the cut.

The democrats could nominate a chipmunk, and the structural advantages they enjoy cannot be changed by any currently listed Republican candidate. Romney plans on running after South Carolina when the chaos exposes the cluster F, but he could not beat the Chipmunk. Now you throw in the most prepared candidate to be president of the United States since George Washington......this all becomes moot. The democrats will take back the senate(structural) gain some seats in the house, and will continue to own the White House.

Lawyer, First Lady, Senator, Secretary of State. She's made herself the most formidable liberal presidential candidate of all time. Her experience is having learned what does and doesn't work in American and International politics.

We could, of course, ask the same question of every one of the 12,476 republican candidates ... compared to Hillary, what have any of them really accomplished? What makes any of them politically attractive to the greatest number of American voters?

Reality.

Like I said, Progressives can not name a single accomplishment of their ONLY candidate. One who is drowning under more and more scandals every day.

Early in the process, Republicans have a wide, diverse selection of candidates with tremendous resumes and accomplishments. That is good for them and great for the country.

I do not like Romney, but he has learned what killed his candidacy last time. He sees that after South Carolina the bus carrying the clowns will crash and he will put an infusion of cash and take the nomination. Understand that Iowa and NH delegates are a pimple on somebody's asz and do not mean a thing.....for all I dislike about Romney.....he is smart.

There are many kinds of "smart". I don't doubt that Romney is holding off and is more likely than most to get the nomination. But Romney's failings are part of who he is...unethical (destroying companies, stealing their assets, moving jobs overseas, using overseas tax shelters, etc.)...uncaring (likes to fire people and has put a huge number of people out of work)...probably delusional (Mormon savior on a white horse in magic underwear)...disconnected ("Corporations are people, my friend".) We went through all this in 2012. Did I mention boring?
