President Obama is facing a Democratic revolt over ambitious trade initiatives that are dividing the party, leading to tensions with everyone from Senate party leader Harry Reid to liberal icon Elizabeth Warren.

The disagreements erupted on Wednesday as leaders of the Senate Finance Committee tried to proceed with a vote on trade legislation, but liberal opposition quickly delayed the process.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., a fierce opponent of the trade push, invoked a Senate scheduling rule to sideline the committee's actions for hours. "This job-killing trade deal has been negotiated in secret," said Sanders, who made a lengthy Senate speech denouncing the legislation.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, vowed the committee would finish the bill Wednesday. "I don't care how much time it takes," he said.

The flare-up was just one of many in the Democratic ranks. In a blunt challenge to the president, Reid told reporters earlier this week: "I'm not only no, I'm hell no" on Obama's proposal.

Trade is good, but the devil is in the detail, and debate focuses on the detail. Glad that somebody is actually questioning the detail. It puts more pressure on negotiators to be responsive to economic dislocation in America, and currency manipulation.

Yes, the Republican answer to an issue is to come up with a platitude and then run away.

That is all the GOP has been doing for the last 6.5 years. Opposing Barrack Obama, but never offering an acceptable solution. That surely is a winning strategy that should resonate with voters for 2016!

OK.  Are you for or against the TPP?  This isn't a trick question.  I'm simply asking you to state your opinion...on a subject that you created a thread about. It's perfectly OK to say "I don't really know much about the TPP, so I can't say one way or the other."

I created a thread about one of the battles within the Democrat Party. You have to admit that there is an air of desperation within the Democrat Party and the fact that they have no plan "B".

Can you elaborate on this? A policy is up for discussion, and some members of the democratic party support it while others are against it. How does "desperation" creep into that narrative? What do you mean when you say "they have no plan B"? Here again, there is a policy. It is now time to debate that policy and it is in fact being debated. How do you get "desperation" and "no plan B" out of that? What is plan A, in your mind?

See if you can make some sense this time and say something specific that couldn't be applied to any thread about anything. This thread could be about the Iran deal...
