I mean seriously, someone should warn the Iranians that these Republican senators are crazy.

Someone needs to clue in semi-retired President Obama do they not? Or will he learn about it in the New York Times?

Just when I think they couldn't be any more despicable, they are.

And before any conservatives start cheering and justifying this move, separate this from your irrational, indecent hatred of President Obama and think about it.
Would you accept this kind of underhanded behavior from a group of democrats towards a republican president?  Would you have applauded a foreign leader being invited without notifying Bush, and then telling congress how misguided the Iraq war was?

The GOP has lost all sense of decency and ethics.

I realize that semi-retired President Obama thinks we don't have a constitution but we really do.

From that document.

Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:—"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

Section. 2.

The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States; he may require the Opinion, in writing, of the principal Officer in each of the executive Departments, upon any Subject relating to the Duties of their respective Offices, and he shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.

He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur;
and he shall nominate, and by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, shall appoint Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, Judges of the supreme Court, and all other Officers of the United States, whose Appointments are not herein otherwise provided for, and which shall be established by Law: but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments

The Dems did everything they could to obstruct Bush. I think a vast majority of people have lost faith in the leadership. If it wasn't so, then why is Congress acting on this? It's one thing to shove a domestic agenda down the throats of the citizens, but when Obama is gonna "executive action" a nuclear arms treaty with a terrorist nation, that's a different story. BTW, the Senate had a foreign leader chosen by Obama to address it on the same topic. (David Cameron) Where was your angst over that meeting?

Unfortunately, the Dems did NOT do everything they could to obstruct Bush.  Part of that was the nationalist fervor (fever?) over 9/11.  Part of it was the anthrax...and the suspicious death of Sen. Paul Wellstone.  Personally, I never had any faith at all in Bush's "leadership" after the fiasco of the Florida recount and the Supremes' decision (a one-shot wonder).

You can't accept facts after decades can you?

Newspapers' recount shows Bush prevailed

USA Today
5/15/2001

George W. Bush would have won a hand count of Florida's disputed ballots if the standard advocated by Al Gore had been used, the first full study of the ballots reveals. Bush would have won by 1,665 votes — more than triple his official 537-vote margin — if every dimple, hanging chad and mark on the ballots had been counted as votes, a USA TODAY/Miami Herald/Knight Ridder study shows. The study is the first comprehensive review of the 61,195 "undervote" ballots that were at the center of Florida's disputed presidential election.

Iran's foreign minister responds to GOP letter

Asked about the open letter of 47 US Senators to Iranian leaders, the Iranian Foreign Minister, Dr. Javad Zarif, responded that “in our view, this letter has no legal value and is mostly a propaganda ploy. It is very interesting that while negotiations are still in progress and while no agreement has been reached, some political pressure groups are so afraid even of the prospect of an agreement that they resort to unconventional methods, unprecedented in diplomatic history. This indicates that like Netanyahu, who considers peace as an existential threat, some are opposed to any agreement, regardless of its content.”

Zarif expressed astonishment that some members of US Congress find it appropriate to write to leaders of another country against their own President and administration. He pointed out that from reading the open letter, it seems that the authors not only do not understand international law, but are not fully cognizant of the nuances of their own Constitution when it comes to presidential powers in the conduct of foreign policy.

Foreign Minister Zarif added that “I should bring one important point to the attention of the authors and that is, the world is not the United States, and the conduct of inter-state relations is governed by international law, and not by US domestic law. The authors may not fully understand that in international law, governments represent the entirety of their respective states, are responsible for the conduct of foreign affairs, are required to fulfil the obligations they undertake with other states and may not invoke their internal law as justification for failure to perform their international obligations.”

The Iranian Foreign Minister added that “change of administration does not in any way relieve the next administration from international obligations undertaken by its predecessor in a possible agreement about Iran’s peaceful nuclear program.” He continued “I wish to enlighten the authors that if the next administration revokes any agreement with ‘the stroke of a pen,’ as they boast, it will have simply committed a blatant violation of international law.” He emphasized that if the current negotiation with P5+1 [Britain, China, France, Germany Russia and the United States] result in a Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, it will not be a bilateral agreement between Iran and the US, but rather one that will be concluded with the participation of five other countries, including all permanent members of the Security Council, and will also be endorsed by a Security Council resolution.

Zarif expressed the hope that his comments “may enrich the knowledge of the authors to recognize that according to international law, Congress may not ‘modify the terms of the agreement at any time’ as they claim, and if Congressadopts any measure to impede its implementation, it will have committed a material breach of US obligations.”

The Foreign Minister also informed the authors that majority of US international agreements in recent decades are in fact what the signatories describe as “mere executive agreements” and not treaties ratified by the Senate. He reminded them that “their letter in fact undermines the credibility of thousands of such ‘mere executive agreements’ that have been or will be entered into by the US with various other governments.”

Zarif concluded by stating that “the Islamic Republic of Iran has entered these negotiations in good faith and with the political will to reach an agreement, and it is imperative for our counterparts to prove similar good faith and political will in order to make an agreement possible.”

Iran's foreign minister doesn't realize that what happens in this country happens because people want it to, not because some foreign leader wants it to. Foreign treaties must be agreed to by the Senate or they are null and void. We aren't a dictatorship, unlike Iran and the ayathollas

The letter from the U.S. Senate is an international embarrassment to our country. The Iranian foreign minister is exactly correct.

Today's GOP is so F**ked-up; it is unbelievable. It is 180 degrees from the party I joined in 1970.

What I'd like to know is who is in charge of the GOP senators? How did this get past McConnell or did he too endorse this unprecedented move? Has apparently their hate for Obama blinded them to all else or do they actually think making an agreement with Iran for 10 years of inspections is a bad idea?

All GOP senators except for 7 signed the letter, McConnell included in signers.

This is more than thinking outside the box or coloring outside the lines. These are, as he says "unconventional methods, unprecedented in diplomatic history." They have run off the rails.
