Approximately 500,000 full-time and part-time associates at Walmart U.S. stores and Sam's Clubs will receive pay raises in the first half of the current fiscal year. Current and future associates will benefit from this initiative, which ensures that Walmart hourly associates earn at least $1.75 above today's federal minimum wage, or $9.00 per hour, in April. The following year, by Feb. 1, 2016, current associates will earn at least $10.00 per hour.

Walmart cut out their healthcare for parttime employees so now their eligible for Obamacare. This is why they are probably getting raises.

With the gas prices remaining relatively low and the inflation indicators in the negative, for the first time in thirty years people are talking about median income gains........it starts with fair wages and it is good Wal Mart is beginning to contribute to the same......a lot further to go, and when I buy that Chinese lawn chair this summer and pay ten cents more knowing that associates will be weened off government assistance with fair wages.....I have no problem shopping there and paying a bit more.

Walmart has been under considerable public pressure to pay employees more. It's not like the Waltons can't afford it. It's a real shame, because IMHO Sam Walton was a decent guy trying to fill a real niche market in the rural US. He also prided himself on offering products made in the USA. He put considerable emphasis on price negotiation in purchasing and in regional distribution. It's a shame his heirs don't appreciate that approach.
