BANGUI, Central African Republic – Tens of thousands of Muslims are fleeing to neighboring countries by plane and truck as Christian militias stage brutal attacks, shattering the social fabric of this war-ravaged nation.

In towns and villages as well as here in the capital, Christian vigilantes wielding machetes have killed scores of Muslims, who are a minority here, and burned and looted their houses and mosques in recent days, according to witnesses, aid agencies and peacekeepers. Tens of thousands of Muslims have fled their homes.

The cycle of chaos is fast becoming one of the worst outbreaks of violence along Muslim-Christian fault lines in recent memory in sub-Saharan Africa, tensions that have also plagued countries such as Nigeria and Sudan.

It makes you mad when Christians can defend themselves huh?

Funny how Sal conveniently leaves this iota of the message out:

Christians have also been victims of violence, targeted by Muslims in this complex communal conflict that U.N. and humanitarian officials fear could implode into genocide. Several hundred thousand Christians remain in crowded, squalid camps, unable or too afraid to return home.

I understand and acknowledge that Muslims are every bit as capable of atrocities.

All religions are prone to acts of brutality and oppression.

I think you're beginning to understand the President's point regarding the Crusades.

No Joanie, what Sal's saying is that Christians and Muslims can both be assholes bent on slaughter.

Do you actually believe that Christians who commit cruel, terrible slaughter in the name of Jesus, are good folks?

By the way, both Christians and Muslims supposedly worship the same God (they both believe in the Torah). That makes them equally stupid in my book.

It's been going back and forth centuries before the crusades... yawn. It'd be nice if we stick to today's priorities.

Christianity ended greater barbarisms under pagan Rome. The church often fell short of its ideals — which all human things do — but its ideals were indisputably a great advance for humanity.

Of course, it would never do to say this openly. But when the Crusader returned home, he was likely to imitate the manners which he had learned from his heathenish foe, compared to whom the average western knight was still a good deal of a country bumpkin. He also brought with him several new food-stuffs, such as peaches and spinach which he planted in his garden and grew for his own benefit. He gave up the barbarous custom of wearing a load of heavy armour and appeared in the flowing robes of silk or cotton which were the traditional habit of the followers of the Prophet and were originally worn by the Turks. Indeed the Crusades, which had begun as a punitive expedition against the Heathen, became a course of general instruction in civilisation for millions of young Europeans. From a military and political point of view the Crusades were a failure. Jerusalem and a number of cities were taken and lost. A dozen little kingdoms were established in Syria and Palestine and Asia Minor, but they were re-conquered by the Turks and after the year 1244 (when Jerusalem became definitely Turkish) the status of the Holy Land was the same as it had been before 1095. But Europe had undergone a great change. The people of the west had been allowed a glimpse of the light and the sunshine and the beauty of the east. Their dreary castles no longer satisfied them. They wanted a broader life.

Ideally, politics would not be influenced by religion in any way.  But, alas...

When religious conflict evolves to armed militias.....it becomes political because the political nation state is impacted. Another star for Seaoat, and another corner seat for the forum dunce.....somebody has to do it, and we just cannot seem to stop you from earning that seat and hat, no matter how hard we try.

For those with impaired cognitive abilities, there is an opinion among those of a certain political stripe, which has been expressed countless times on this very forum, that Muslims are somehow inherently inferior morally to Christians, and this inferiority is what leads them to be violent.

Just last week, we were informed by FAUX News that Christians NEVER kill in the name of religion.

But, here we have a story that beautifully exposes that opinion as utter bullshit, and shows that Christians are capable of horrific violence against people of different faiths given the right circumstances and opportunity.

Let the rationalizations, qualifications, and excuses begin!

It's you batshit crazy conservatives who are always advocating military intervention. Who was it who talked us into invading and occupying Iraq and Afghanistan? And claiming all the while God's on our side?

As long as any group targets innocents, oppress women, limit education, and are intolerant to other beliefs and ideologies...

they are inferior to modern human beings. No matter what religion or set of beliefs are used. Leftists included.

See how that works? No dividing people... no judgement... no special privileges or designations... no politics.
