When that is implemented without opposition, perhaps next will be surveillance cameras on public streets. License plate readers on police cruisers. More police officers on the beat. Free military equipment from the federal government. Free speech zones and zero-tolerance policies and curfews. SWAT team raids. Drones flying overhead,” he wrote.

I like alot of what he says... but he voted against the latest nsa reform bill. In his defense he said it didn't go far enough.

What did that accomplish?

Sen. Paul blocks the renewal of Patriot Act
Earlier this evening, Sen. Rand Paul voted against further consideration of the USA Freedom Act as it currently extends key provisions of the Patriot Act until 2017. Sen. Paul led the charge against the Patriot Act extension and offered the following statement:
“In the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Americans were eager to catch and punish the terrorists who attacked us. I, like most Americans, demanded justice. But one common misconception is that the Patriot Act applies only to foreigners—when in reality, the Patriot Act was instituted precisely to widen the surveillance laws to include U.S. citizens,” Sen. Paul said, “As Benjamin Franklin put it, ‘those who trade their liberty for security may wind up with neither.’ Today’s vote to oppose further consideration of the Patriot Act extension proves that we are one step closer to restoring civil liberties in America.”

There needs to be a wide bipartisan effort. Individuals will be targeted by Police unions and like the Mayor of NY where they turned their back on the mayor at the funeral......individuals like Paul mean nothing unless he can organize bipartisan support to reduce budgets in the criminal justice area. I think there is bipartisan support, but just like when the cuts are being made in the military, those individuals will be attacked and be portrayed as soft on terrorist and crime.
