January 15th, Johnny Shane Kormondy goes to the death gurney.

His crimes included home invasion, raping the wife of the house, and murdering her husband. He had accomplices, but apparently, he was the leader of the gang. Apparently, he threatened to kill witnesses and the wife of the house if he was ever released.

Per this Florida Department of Corrections site (http://www.dc.state.fl.us/oth/Quickfacts.html), it costs $17,338 per year to house Florida inmates. This amounts to about $365K for this guy. Who knows the additional costs for his appointed counsel.  The site states that there were $2Billion in appropriations for the 2013-2014 period.  That's provided by taxpayers.

Do we consider each life so precious that we wait two decades to provide judicial closure?

For those in the legal community, I, too, want to know why it takes so long?

Think about some of the people who have been released from prison after decades, when it turns out they were wrongfully convicted. If we had executed them faster . . . then what?

There were a number of murders in the Pensacola area during the early 1990s that resulted in death sentences. Kormondy's sentence will be the first of these carried out.

It takes so long because there are so many in that same legal community you spoke of who are absolutely opposed to capital punishment and they're able to delay it.

Bingo

In baseball hitting the ball one time in three and you are an all star.......in life and death........a higher percentage might be nice. Too bad we do not have an easy button.
