Children. Go to the 1967 and 1973 middle east wars. One was a total preemptive success by Israel, and one almost resulted in the annihilation of Israel which ultimately won with massive air lifts from the US. In the first two days Israel lost half their tanks as the Egyptians crossed the Suez and had the air protection of SAM missles to protect their troops. At the same time the Syrians completely defeated the Israeli tank divisions on the Golan Heights and had a clear path to cross the Jordan and split Israel in half, but they froze. We sent replacement tanks, the Israelis made an amazing attack at the middle of the Egyptians(a tactical move which has high risk as evidenced by Lee's decision to charge the middle at Gettysburg) and were able to put a bridge across the suez which allowed their tanks to take out the Sams and utilize their air superiority to take the day. The Russians were planning land invasions and we were on the brink of Nuclear war. Israel barely prevailed and lost 10k.
Today the overwhelming superiority of numbers of the Iranians, Iraq, Syrian, and Egyptian pre American intervention in the region would make a conventional ground attack against Israel highly successful with completely unacceptable losses to Israel. However, the nation states which threatened Israel are in chaos. There are no tank divisions which threaten. There is no credible air threat. There is no fear of a cornered Israel using tactical nuclear weapons and the genie remains in the bottle. Do you really think that the last 12 years have been by accident. I have some swampland to sell you. We are in no hurry to eliminate the ISIS threat, and when ISIS turns on Israel.........which does it not strike some as ironic that this fantasy about this being a religious operation that they would not attack the infidels in Israel, but would rather be consolidating power in a more traditional geopolitical manner.
