Of course and the COWH has sent how many military personnel to their death now with a trip there as well?

I'm not disagreeing with you on this one. I think it was pretty damn irresponsible to send troops.

Ebola has already been successfully contained and treated in the United States.

This will hold true with this case in Texas as well.

As it will with the next case, and the next case after that.

We have the training, personnel, and facilities to handle it.

Ebola won't be allowed to spread like wildfire in the United States.

And, it certainly won't be allowed to spread like wildfire within our troops.

Get a night light.

Until people stop dying from it, you can never be too safe.

This may be true, but this person was not brought back contained like the medical personnel they brought back, this person was in the general population and happened to just walk in ER.

Well thank God!  I thought it would have a chance to spread. The Texas man was in the states 4-5 days before he was symptomatic.

With Ebola, a person is not infectious until symptomatic.

The outbreaks are out of control in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, where medical facilities are poor.

The outbreaks in Nigeria and Senegal, where facilities are better, appear to be contained.

Our facilities are much better than those in Nigeria and Senegal.

Stay calm and carry on.

The people who contacted ebola and sought treatment did so outside of the clinical setting. While poorly equipped clinics can contribute to the virus spreading, they are not the original origin of the virus.

The incubation period is 2- 21 days. Yes, like you said, they are not infectious until symptomatic...but early signs of the infection are non-specific and flu-like without cause for alarm until symptoms progress. Dangerous time for spreadin the virus through contact with bodily fuids...including nasal droplets.

Ebola, under the right circumstances can live outside the body for several days. Men infected with the virus and recover can still carry the virus and spread it through semen up to 7 weeks after recovery.

Ebola, just like HIV and many other diseases, can be contracted through sexual contact with an infected person.
Ebola is transmitted like HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus) but the virus that causes AIDS is much less contagious than Ebola.

The man from Texas returned to the US on Sept. 20. He developed symptoms significant enough to seek ER care on Sept. 24, he was treated and released. He returned on the 26 or 28 and was admitted with Ebola.

Yes ...

... and, the CDC has tracked down all of his contacts and identified everyone who needs to be monitored.

Advanced countries have good protocols to fight infectious diseases.

If Nigeria can handle it, surely we can.

The CDC  is still trying to locate everyone he came in contact with....Sal this crap is more contagious than HIV.  Ebola symptoms start out like mild flu or viral symptoms then progress. HIV started out with one man coming into the country.

I'm sure you know that as far as contagious diseases go, AIDS was really not very contagious.

Ebola is more contagious, but one still has to come into direct contact with an infected and sick person's bodily fluids.

But, the fear-mongering and panic are quite similar, so there's that.

AIDS was and is very contagious and it spread rampantly...with acquired knowledge of the disease and precutions implemented, after the fact........it has been somewhat contained.

C'mon now, Joanie.

You know better than that.

Colds, flus, measles, etc. are very contagious.

AIDS was only ever really a threat to people who participated in certain, specific lifestyles.

Listen up.....until we really learned about HIV it was rampant. We did not have the knowledge and wherewithal to stop it. Thousands and thousands contacted HIV and AIDS from blood transfusions. Health care workers were exposed and contracted the virus. It's a threat to many not just the ones with specific lifestyles....it is also spread through casual heterosexual contact, needle sticks, and any way bodily fluids can be exchanged intentionally or by accident.

The latest victim in Texas now visited Libya. I don't know of any U.S. troops being sent to the countries in Africa that are suffering the worst from Ebola.

Do you?

Actually, AIDS is a condition that cannot be spread from person to person at all.

I believe what you were going for was HIV - which is not very contagious relative to many other viruses.
