this exchange made me think of something... sry if it's a hijack. i am a pretty good athlete and would have easily joined the military had there been a cause. i watched tons of movies and felt i could have been exceptional in combat. well... the last company i worked for (about 20 years ago when i was early 30's) had one of those corp bonding things... dumb as they are. but this one ended with a whole afternoon of paintball... which i hadn't played but had heard of and really thght would be fun. whelp... it was hot near ocala so i declined the protective clothing and just went with the goggles. I'm sure some training would've helped... and i gave as good as i got... but even the women and children ambushed me. i could've played it safe... but it certainly drove home (along with about 20 bruises all over my body) that it ain't a movie... and i or anybody can easily be killed in combat... "and that's all I have to say about that".

Yes I know what you mean. I used to play laser tag back in the day and I found the only thing that worked for me was ambush from a dark corner...basically being a sniper. All that over the top Gallipoli stuff was a quick way to get eliminated.

You totally missed the point, if the "arm chair clint eastwoods" practiced very often then the outcome would have been very different.

I didn't miss any point. You believe that firing off rounds at the range prepares you to confront a shooter in a panicked chaotic city street or dark and crowded theater. Common sense tells me you're full of shit.

People can train to any scenario. In my job we do repetitious training for many differing types of unusual circumstances pertaining to my line of work. Also, repeated exposure to gunfire lessens the adrenalin factor of the event.

Sal, in competitive shooting, we shoot at pop targets and points are deducted for a friendly hit. You have just seconds to respond to the target once it pops up. There are various scenarios that can help cops to safely and effectively handle a situation like that. Like GUNZ said, repetition is the key. If a person goes over and over something enough times, then it will become an automatic reaction to the event presented him. Granted it is shooting at a target, but it would build up the confidence in a cop in a real world situation.

Yeah and if the guy is in plain clothes and just shot someone in the head I am pretty sure if he points the gun at me I should shoot back. Hey if a guy dressed as a cop he could shoot all the people he wanted and get in his car and drive off just flashing his badge. I know I would never draw down on some guy in uniform I would run and find cover asap.
