At this point Obama has no options. He practiced total disengagement and this is the result, chaos - and not just in Iraq but Libya, Syria, etc. No boots except for about 50 additional Marines to help secure the Embassy. I'll bet their pucker factor is pretty high right now.

If he is going to use air power then YES there will be boots on the ground. It takes JTACs to do terminal guidance on ground targets attacked by aircraft.

We have over 200 troops there, 5000 Embassy members, and 500 Marines in route.

God dammit.....send enough to assure the safety of our skeleton troops and staff left there in 2011....either get them all out or annihilate the enemy.

ISIS is a ruthless organization hell bent on creating mass murder in horrific style.  What will happen when ISIS slaughters our American troops and personnel in Iraq?

The evacuation of our personnel: Embassy, Military Advisers,  CIA and our ground troops will definitely require " Boots On The Ground" and not just an additional 500.

The banner signified the successful completion of the "Abraham Lincoln's deployment," Cmdr. Chun continued noting that the Abraham Lincoln was deployed 290 days, longer than any other nuclear-powered aircraft carrier in history.  Geez......they flew over 16,000 sorties.....damn fine job.

Yea, that slant is kinda funny, the banner was directed to the families and was placed by the ship - whose crew was completing an incredibly difficult cruise (mission). Anyone who listened to or read the text of the speech would know Bush stated an "end to major combat operations", not an end of the conflict. But why would some people even attempt to get the facts straight? LOL.

Yes, but the Decider used that banner for a photo-op, so you are partially correct.

Several days ago it was reported 200 U.S. civilian ( flight mechanics ) contractors are fighting for their lives on an airbase near Mosul.... Where are they?

I'm not denying people are trapped, but a google revealed zero news coverage from ANY and all of the regular media, including Fox. Every link is to a fringe publication, including Freerepublic.

Very strange.

They should have already been evacuated.

The national enquirer was fringe organization to, just ask mr Edwards. Do you honestly think the msm would report on this? If it turns out to be true it will be the second Benghazi.

The U.S. contractors were at Balad to help the Pentagon prepare the facilities for the delivery of the F-16 aircraft the Obama administration has agreed to provide the Iraqi government.

The surrounded Americans said they were under ISIS fire from small arms, AK47s and rocket propelled grenades, or RPGs.

The contractors had been able to hold the base, but those on the scene reported it was only a matter of time before the ISIS terrorists succeeded in breaking through the perimeter. The sources confirmed the contractors were still under siege, despite an Associated Press report Thursday, citing U.S. officials, that three plane loads of Americans were being evacuated from Balad.

There are other stories about the contractors and that Iraq had ask for help, and denied.

It appears these people were on their own.

"Could Be One of the Great Achievements of This Administration" The vice president said he’d been to Iraq 17 times and visits the country every three months or so. "I know every one of the major players in all the segments of that society" he said. "It's impressed me. I've been impressed how they have been deciding to use the political process rather than guns to settle their differences."

The embassy staff and all other personnel should be removed to a safe location.

I don't think that's going to happen though.

275 Marines to the Embassy that are "combat Equipped." Guess boots are on the ground again. That is a huge area to defend for the 150 or so Marines/Army already there and I can see where the 275
More would help. Wonder if this can prevent another copy of Carter's dilemma in Iran in 1979? Probably so..... The place is like a fort to begin with from what I saw in 2003 when we convoyed over from Camp Sather for a "looksee"....

100 Special Forces advisers are being sent in......bombs will fall soon.

It's important to eliminate ISIS along with the weapons we provided.

If the Iraqi Army doesn't start fighting there is really nothing we can do except endanger U.S. advisers and embassy personnel.. The biggest problem is PM Maliki - he needs to resign.

Hopefully there is an extraction plan in place.

As far as special forces advising Iraq military and following ambassador orders, it won't work. It will just create loss of military lives.

Do the job to prep for Predator drone strikes and air strikes, eliminate the enemy.
