Battlefield Archaeology

Folks are venturing onto old Eastern Front WWII battlefields and digging for relics. They are unearthing bodies (well, skeletons, anyway), equipment, weapons, ammunition.

Since every inch of Eastern Europe and the western former USSR was fought over, I guess you don't have to go far to find stuff once you get there.

I would be afraid of digging up a dud artillery shell that was still live and which could blow the diggers to smithereens.

You know.....we sometime become distant from the realities of war and how fortunated we are that for 150 years this country has not had war in our country.
