Notice that we constantly see the govt lamenting a lack of funds for pensions, ss, medicare... etc.

But never a word about the cost of social welfare programs.

You need to look at real waste. Look at what our military presence in Afghanastan has spent. Like the 300 million dollar power plant that burns diesel and cost three times as much as the power being imported into the Country. Vice TV did a special on HBO. Our military contractors are cutting up our assets.....billions of dollars of assets, and sending them to junk yards in Afghanastan, where they are Sold to Pakistan, and the taliban.......we are spewing resources in the billions and you wonder where the money is going in our budget? Let us make huge cuts in military spending, and then folks will begin to realize that Crimea is not a vital American interest.

You don't want another Bonus Army situation on your hands with my generation and the one under me. It won't be like MacArthur running off a bunch or poor, ill- equipped vets who have let their skills deteriorate.

That event should have sent the message loud and clear just how little the government respects veterans...

"What does it profit anyone except the very few to whom war means huge profits?" . . . Until 1898 we didn't own a bit of territory outside the mainland of North America. At that time our national debt was a little more than $1,000,000,000. Then we became "internationally minded." We forgot, or shunted aside, the advice of the Father of our country. We forgot George Washington's warning about "entangling alliances." We went to war. We acquired outside territory. At the end of the World War period, as a direct result of our fiddling in international affairs, our national debt had jumped to over $25,000,000,000.

It is the enormous waste in the Military, and particularly what is happening in Afghanastan as we wind down. Billions and billions of infrastructure for their citizens while our veterans and citizens get the short stick.....and Mr. Markle wanting us to go to war in the Crimea.......we need to set our priorities which are rational and can sustain this nation.

I couldn't agree with you more!

Yes, we don't need to be the policeman of the world.  Especially when our history of imperialism makes us one of the worst bad cops ever.   Cuba, the Philippines, Panama, supporting the French in Vietnam, and then taking their place, etc. Our failed efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan.  We are about to be replaced by China as economic military leader of the world . . and there's nothing we can do about it as long as their economy keeps rising, and ours' continues to fall.

Educationally, we're a loser.  Healthwise, the same.  Our government is completely dysfunctional, and no one ... I repeat no one really thinks are going to get better for us.

But it would sure help if we stopped spending so much on war-making.  And the facts are, as a nation we've never seen a time when real invasion of our shores (der Homeland for those of you who need that kind of thing) by a major military entity, has been less likely.

Gosh it would be nice to live in a peaceful, satisfying, happy country.

Had Obama pressed Karzai for an agreement sooner, we would not have a need to leave this equipment behind.
