I don't recall anyone here saying that cancer was a recent thing?

cancer is nothing more than any rogue cell in your body that doesn't stop mitosis and thus is named after whatever cell that goes rogue.

so constant damage to any cell from any reason increases mitosis, also increasing your chances of having a rogue cell as they replicate to repair.

so yes, sun, bacteria, viruses and other things can cause cells to dye off inducing mitosis, increasing the odds for cancer. All these things were around before our GMO's and chemicals we eat and drink.

Cancers have always been around along with other diseases that afflict mankind.

Pre-civilization humans most likely lead healthier lifestyles with more varied food (whatever they could find to eat) along with lots of exercise. Most of the humans after the first cities were established had a limited diet (what they grew as crops or the domesticated animals they raised) and probably enjoyed more leisure time. However the mere fact they the latter lived in a confined environment, which was most probably unsanitary, with limited access to different dietary nutrients lead to them being in a more hazardous environment when it came to diseases.

Remember a lot of the folks in Rome were nutso because they brought the city water in lead pipes. Also they used to think tomatoes were poisonous because the acid in them leeched the lead out of pewter plates and poisoned people. Also people didn't understand radiation like Madame Curie and Edison and some of them died from the effects...ignorance kills..Wonder what we are ignorant of ?

I'm not really sure what seaoat thought when he made the title to this thread. Its as if he was mocking someone who he thought didn't think cancer was long ago. Again, I have never heard one person here say that.

seaoat, care to jump back on your thread and explain that?

"...GMOs, or “genetically modified organisms,” are plants or animals that have been genetically engineered with DNA from bacteria, viruses or other plants and animals. These experimental combinations of genes from different species cannot occur in nature or in traditional crossbreeding.

Virtually all commercial GMOs are engineered to withstand direct application of herbicide and/or to produce an insecticide. Despite biotech industry promises, none of the GMO traits currently on the market offer increased yield, drought tolerance, enhanced nutrition, or any other consumer benefit.

Meanwhile, a growing body of evidence connects GMOs with health problems, environmental damage and violation of farmers’ and consumers’ rights.

Are GMOs safe?
Most developed nations do not consider GMOs to be safe. In more than 60 countries around the world, including Australia, Japan, and all of the countries in the European Union, there are significant restrictions or outright bans on the production and sale of GMOs. In the U.S., the government has approved GMOs based on studies conducted by the same corporations that created them and profit from their sale. Increasingly, Americans are taking matters into their own hands and choosing to opt out of the GMO experiment.

Are GMOs labeled?
Unfortunately, even though polls consistently show that a significant majority of Americans want to know if the food they’re purchasing contains GMOs, the powerful biotech lobby has succeeded in keeping this information from the public. In the absence of mandatory labeling, the Non-GMO Project was created to give consumers the informed choice they deserve.

Where does the Non-GMO Project come in?
The Non-GMO Project is a non-profit organization with a mission of protecting the non-GMO food supply and giving consumers an informed choice. We offer North America’s ONLY third party verification for products produced according to rigorous best practices for GMO avoidance (for more info, click here). Our strategy is to empower consumers to make change through the marketplace. If people stop buying GMOs, companies will stop using them and farmers will stop growing them..."

You need to watch this, Seaoat.  In fact, everyone should watch it (if you haven't already):
