Wall Street adviser: Actual unemployment is 37.2%, 'misery index' worst in 40 years

Don't believe the happy talk coming out of the White House, Federal Reserve and Treasury Department when it comes to the real unemployment rate and the true “Misery Index.” Because, according to an influential Wall Street advisor, the figures are a fraud.

In a memo to clients provided to Secrets, David John Marotta calculates the actual unemployment rate of those not working at a sky-high 37.2 percent, not the 6.7 percent advertised by the Fed, and the Misery Index at over 14, not the 8 claimed by the government.

Marotta, who recently advised those worried about an imploding economy to get a gun, said that the government isn't being honest in how it calculates those out of the workforce or inflation, the two numbers used to get the Misery Index figure.

Except that EUC has not been renewed in spite of long term unemployment being the highest since the Great Depression....back to the drawing board pk

Yeah unemployment is high only because those Republican obstructionist and Bush not allowing this measure to be enacted years ago.

They are arriving at the 37% figure by including everyone over the age of 16. Everyone. 98 year old people in retirement homes. Brain-dead people on life support. Retired people with millions in the bank and no need to work. Everyone.

Can anyone here see any pitfalls in calculating the unemployment rate this way? Can anyone see anything that could potentially cloud a figure like this? Something along the lines of generational size, perhaps?

Oh... do you mean like removing people from the ue number that have used all of their weeks of unemployment? Those that no longer look for work? and those that have transferred to welfare or disability? Yes... that doesn't give us a clear picture.

The 37% measure, however, is not published; and the reason for that is self evident.

Hence we need a new set of leaders.

yes and all of a sudden all tossed people who got kicked off of the gov rolls don't count any more. its a freaking miracle... poof!   

I find it amazing that in the situation we are in where people are not becoming employed and becoming tax paying citizens that as those who were employed leave the teet, no longer get counted. so its no surprise to anyone with a single brain cell that eventually if this keeps going on long enough, the unemployment rate will be zero, but no one will be working LOL

Not true. The U6 number counts those people, and it is published every month with the headline U3 number. No "poof" or miracle. It's there for people who read.

The 37% figure, however, which counts the entire population of psychiatric hospitals and nursing homes, that would be an example of "fuzzy math".
