New Coast baseball stadium attracting developers
by Associated Press
Published: January 14,2014

BILOXI — A new baseball stadium in Biloxi could draw 350,000 people or more to the downtown each year, and those kinds of numbers are spurring the anticipated attention from developers and property owners.

Jerry Creel, Biloxi’s community development director, tells The Sun Herald these are properties that haven’t drawn any calls in a long time.

Creel says with Friday’s announcement that the Huntsville Stars AA baseball team will move to Biloxi in 2015, it seems to be an increased sense of urgency.

Biloxi Council still has to vote on a $21 million bond issue before construction can begin on the 6,000-seat stadium.

Creel says developers are considering hotels, restaurants, entertainment, assisted living and residential in the downtown, but it’s too early to release any detail

Mean while, in Pensacola we are going on 3 years with only one office building in the works. I know. I know. Just wait.

Uh, who said it had to have all that to be successful?

Exactly........330k attendance, and they are spending 7 million more for the stadium to get 20k more attendance. Cities all over America would line up to get Maritime Park.

No, cities all over the country "would line up to have maritime park IF THEY ALSO HAD CASINO GAMBLING"!

You have to have the hook,  seaoat.  The thing to draw the crowds.
And a podunk minor league baseball team aint it.
Gambling is.
Then once you have a large captive audience you can sell em anything including podunk baseball. Because any normal human can spend only so much time inside a fucking casino. It's like spending days in the sideshow with all the mirrors at the Fair. lol

Bob you are correct, if there was a casino downtown would draw more tourists to the games. I have spent a great deal of time over the years in Biloxi and believe me if someone is there for multi night stays they do leave the casino and visit other places. The Biloxi mayor was on TV the other day before our town hall meeting and he said crime had gone down when the casino's starting opening because it gave people jobs, although they had a hard time finding the work force in Biloxi. They did bring in training schools for dealer's, but initially they had to recruit from outside.

This will steer us a little off the road but I can't resist after you brought up my favorite American iconic pastime, Ichi.

By the way,  that's wrastler David Schwartz who happens to be a Jew.

I'll tell you a little story about my ignorance.  For most of my life I had a picture of Jews being short wimpy little bean counters.  I thought Woody Allen was one of the larger Jews.  lol

And it wasn't until only recently that I got to realizing what a stereotype that was.  And it was seeing this Jewish wrastler what did it.
You can't tell it from the avatar,  but he towers over John Stossel standing in front of him by a good 8".
And then it hit me.   The Jews couldn't be wimps if they won all those wars against the AYrabs.  There's probably plenty of jews like him.  And boy did my stereotype take another punch to the jaw then.

It was kinda like when you helped set me straight on "gooks".

But just before I hit the "send" button on this post,   I realized that Schwartz probably had a non-Jewish mother cause he don't LOOK jew.
And my stereotype came back again.

From the looks of him, his mother must have been some kind of neanderthal woman. So he's half Jew and half missing link. lol

But I kid him with the greatest respect. I have never seen another human being be as tough and mean looking when he's looking at another one eye to eye than this dude can do. Even if it is acting. lol

But the real appeal is, that fine line between the acting and the real mccoy.
And Schwartz don't go by the moniker "Dr. Death" for nuttin.

My Grandfather was not a real "learned" man in the traditional sense of the word.  But, He was a huge "rassling" fan.  He was away ahead of his time.  I can remember him telling me back in the 50s " You know Jr, one day they will figure out a way to make money on this and it will be very big"  All of us laughed at him(in a good way).  The ramblings of a guy from the backwoods of Florida.  I only wish he was around to see what he said  has come true.

If we can pull it off, all I wanna be is the ringside announcer. I'll give up all my share of the profits if I can be guaranteed that position and all I can drink on the job. lol

You might want to negotiate a ride home too.

Just put me in a little airstream in the parking lot with a well stocked bar in it.
And it can be had easy anytime.  There's a vintage Airstream buff with an antique store and a front yard full of vintage Airstreams for sale  on 98 about a mile past downtown Foley.
I want the most streamlined one he has.  And then I won't even need a ride home.  I'll be home.  And then I can walk over to where this morning yella and I got the Seagulls to eat bread out of our hands while 50 of them were hovering in front of our faces.

A month or so ago yella and I were down there taking in the scenery.  And we spotted a seagull with one leg disabled.  It was just always hanging straight down while he was in flight.  Like a deadweight anchor attached to him.
And when he came in for a landing he really struggled.  But he eventually always accomplished the landings.  Even on top of the railing beside the pier.  And when he did that it was a sight to behold.  Like watching a human with a leg missing climbing a mountain.

On a later visit,  we saw him again.  Still seemed to be thriving.

Today,  we went down in hopes of seeing him again. We got out on the end of the marina pier and held up the bread.  Within no more than one minute there they all were again.  And then yella thought he spotted him.  And then an instant later I thought I'd spotted him too.

But then when we looked closer,  and when they were right above us,  ALL of them appeared to be tricking us.  They were ALL tucking their legs into the feathers to make us think BOTH their legs were missing.  lol

We could only conclude that they kept hearing us talking so sympathetically about the one-legged bird,  that they all got together and decided to do him one better.  And it worked.  They got ALL the bread.  lol

Lol. We don't go to Stooderberg. We go to Palafox Pier. The pier that juts out west from Plaza de Luna beside the boat marina. It OVERLOOKS Stooderberg.
Well actually we alternate between the pier and Jacos. For those who have never been in Jacos, it's a really cool restaurant at the end of Palafox with the coolest bar in town because you're sitting at the bar looking out the glass at one of the most beautiful bay scenes in the United States. Beats the hell out of anything at either Fisherman's Wharf or the Baltimore Harbor. Why? Because it's so laid back. There are not hordes of tourists OR locals. You have the effing thing to yourself.
I've never been anywhere else in America where I could experience that.
South Florida has the beauty (in places), but not the solitude.
Someday there probably will be hordes down there when they finally discover it. But they aint there now.

And if anybody wants to argue with me about about how good this bay is, I defer to Don Tristán de Luna y Arellano.

He had the whole damn coast to choose from.  He picked this bay.

Tiki bar marco island....laid back and great view looking over the bar at the water. They must have changed the layout at the bar because when I used to go in there 6 years ago, it faced the east and I had no view.

It's pronounced "JOCK O's".  So if you go in there don't be a rube and pronounce it JACK 0's or JAKE O's.  That's what me and yella been doing until I found out how to pronounce it correctly  this morning.  lol

And if you go,  go on Sunday between 10AM and 2 PM.  Very good bloody marys for two bucks.

Yep......watching people come in with their boats and watching football game........woman brought in two big bags of stone crab claws which she had just caught, but it seemed like more than 2 gallons which is suppose to be her limit for the boat.......she got 70 bucks and they were snapped up by some other boaters....huge claws.

My newest vice is virgin bloody marys, a loaf of fresh bread, and escargot.....I use my casino credits and they only charge me 10 bucks........I soak the bread in each of the little pools of butter and escargot and figure my arteries are going to be closed......no problem.......I always have them at the bar while watching tv at the bar.

I love escargot...don't eat them very often, though...and bloody mary's without the virgin, although I usually don't imbibe early in the day. Try some pickled asparagus along with the celery.

and bloody mary's without the virgin,

The doctor says even a small amount of alcohol will be harmful, so I often will swish my wife's tang and tonic, or wine, and then drink a lot of water immediately after to dilute, but I miss a simple glass of wine or cocktail. Usually you will be spending a ton of money at a very good restaurant to get the appetizer escargot, but I get a credit for my play time in the casino and when I go to the bar of their steakhouse they will bring the appetizer and fresh bread......they load the bloody with olives and celery.....no asparagus.
