I didn't take the time to read the comments...have to go now, but I feel like screaming.  How dare these SOB's proceed with this project without local input?  I want a new law.  I'm sick of the state messing up this town.  Jerks.

Interesting. I live right by there and often take I-10 to work. Once I noticed they cut everything back, my assumption was that it was to make it easier to see while merging. I can't tell you how often I'm stuck behind someone going 35 on the on-ramp, and then the completely stop at the end and wait for I-10 to clear before pulling out - as if they are at a stop light or something similar.

I thought it was for a project to widen Scenic Hwy?

no stress

no stress

They also advertised and had a public input meeting. The clearing was for retention ponds as per law. It was either this or eminent domain a few houses. I'll take this over taking someone's home

Yeah. I was just stating what my guess was. The article says they're widening I-10.

I-10 is a Federal highway.  You want the tax payers to spend more money on infrastructure.  So they're spending money on infrastructure.  Just no making you happy is there?

If a private citizen cuts down a heritage oak in their yard for firewood because they lost their job and need to heat their home this winter......they get the full force of the government fighting them.........there is no balance or common sense.

Not true. I just had 2 heritage oaks cut down and stumps ground. The tree service owner said all he had to do was pull permits, which he did and taped it to my front door while he was cutting it down. So if you need some heritage oaks cut down, IM me and I'll provide you with the name and phone number of a reasonably priced tree service.

Where in this country do you need a damn permit to cut down one of your own trees for firewood.......only in a country which has let the fifth amendment and 14th amendment get stampeded by the rights of the state to intrude in the use of my property. The tree ordinance is unconstitutional and like sheep lining up for slaughter, you paid a permit fee to cut a tree down in your yard and do not have enough sense to fight this but now try to justify the rights in your property being taken away as acceptable......I will fight them all the way up the appeal ladder when they tell me I cannot cut down a certain tree I own in my yard. I personally think they should be preserved, but the government can purchase the development rights on your trees which means they pay you for the right to tell you what you are going to do with your trees. All over America government is paying people for their property rights and development rights.......but in Escambia and Santa Rosa County......Where President Obama and socialism is the devil.....people roll over like a dog exposing their belly to a predator......begging for mercy. Not me.....I will fight the bastards and believe our founding father's constitution was correct.

Might want to check Escambia County Ordinances as they pertain to Heritage Oaks. There are some things you do not need a permit for such as hurricane damage, rotting, termite infestation etc. etc. But to cut a completely healthy Heritage Oak on your own property requires a permit. I know, there was one taped to my front door for 4 days.
