It's not easy... but she's tough and has a very fulfilling life. I don't begrudge the guy making his own decisions... I just don't think he could've fully known what his outcome was going to be. Even the doctors don't know what extent the paralysis may be. Some people even fully recover. The lady that shared a room in rehab w my sis did... they said she would never walk or have feeling in her legs... they were wrong.
Your sister is amazing.

All it takes is seconds to change your life forever.
You were very lucky. Thousands of people a day are paralyzed doing the very same thing.

I was a certified diver and worked as one. I needed a phys. ed. credit in college and signed up for scuba diving. I guess they were evaluating our current skills and we were to swim the length of the pool underwater. I had never swum in a pool used for racing. I dove in with usual dive and it was to deep. Cracked my nose on the bottom of the pool but did complete the exercise underwater. I didn't realize my nose was broken and bleeding like a son of a gun.

My guess is that he was mentally competent but did not have all the information. I don't know what I would do.

Charles Krauthammer broke his neck as a freshman in college diving into an empty pool. Instantly he was paralyzed from the neck down. He graduated at the head of his class, went on to medical school and became a psychiatrist. He is now one of the greatest thinkers and commentators of our time. He began as a Liberal and changed to a Conservative the longer he saw what Progressives were doing to out country.

Well... a blow to the head can greatly affect your cognative abilities and even personality. I saw many people come into the hospital after banging their head that were combative and uncooperative. Later they often didn't remember the events.
