I totally agree with Musk, Bob. Hydrogen has very low energy content, and it currently takes more energy to crack hydrogen from water than the hydrogen itself can deliver. Musk has his stuff together.

Most commercial hydrogen made today is derived by cracking apart natural gas molecules. Most of that hydrogen goes into making commercial fertilizer. If the idea for a hydrogen fuel cell is to help get mankind away from fossil-fuels, you are not going anywhere if it takes natural gas to make the hydrogen,.

Elon Musk is an amazing character. He is a self-made billionaire who works 100 hours per week on his various ventures. He helped start Tesla Motors because one if his goals is to combat pollution/climate change by fostering clean and efficient modes of transportation. You can't get any greener than with electric vehicles. He started the Space X company because he feels that mankind must move to outerspace to preserve itself as a species.
