"The Pentagon is ordering most of its approximately 400,000 civilian Defense Department employees back to work after being furloughed following the government shutdown."

The tail is wagging the dog, and pick and choosing who will live or die is normally done in making budgets, but these folks spend thirty hours a week raising campaign funds and work half the time as congress did in 1968. People will die, but these folks will be back in their hometowns to glad hand as this nation goes to crap in a handbasket because folks have no work ethic and a handful of terrorists can hurt innocent children. Oh oh oh Mr. Kotter, but we cannot hurt our base......pay folks for not working.......again pure genius.

Picking and choosing who will comply with or receive delay, waiver, exemption with any law brings up issues w me.

But I guess when you pick and choose the issues to demagoge that equal protection and created equal thing is murky.

You're a sickening apologist. Please tell us... do certain groups (unions, govt emps, corps) deserve special treatment?

Was it a law or not?

Paid time off that doesn't count against my leave. Thank you John Boehner.
I got a lot of projects done around the house.
Me so happy.

You suck at defending your apologies. Answer the question asshat. Is it law or an opportunity to pick winners and losers?

One would require equal protection... the other a wishy washy feel good opportunity to bribe the influential and needy.

2seaoat, you're really off the rails today aren't you?

It is Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid who refused to bring a bill to the floor, passed by the House, which would have funded the clinical trials you are desperately trying to blame on Republicans. ONCE AGAIN, you are WRONG. 2seaoat, you REALLY should start looking at the real news instead of whatever it is you're doing. You look foolish.

Listen to the Question About a Child With Cancer That Appeared to Stump Harry Reid – and His Eventual Response That’s Causing Many to Cringe
Oct. 2, 2013 4:00pm Becket Adams

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) was asked during a press conference Wednesday why he opposes a House bill that would fund the National Institutes of Health during the partial government shutdown if it could “help one child who has cancer.”

And he was apparently unprepared for the question from CNN’s Dana Bash.

“You all talked about children with cancer unable to go to clinical trials. The House is presumably going to pass a bill that funds at least the NIH,” Bash began. “Given what you’ve said, will you at least pass that? And if not, aren’t you playing the same political games that Republicans are?”

Her question is in reference to several House appropriations bills that would keep certain institutions funded during the partial government shutdown. Senate Democrats say they will not negotiate with the House on anything until it passes a “clean” continuing resolution, ending the shutdown completely and leaving Obamacare untouched.

“What right did they have to pick and choose what part of government is going to be funded? It’s obvious what’s going on here. You talk about reckless and irresponsible,” said Sen. Reid. “[T]hey have no right to pick and choose.”

Bash persisted: “But if you can help one child who has cancer, why wouldn’t you do it?”

“Why pit one against the other?” Sen. Chuck Schumer said off microphone, avoiding the the main question.

“Why would we want to do that?” Reid said with a confused look on his face after stuttering.
“I have 1,100 people at Nellis Air Force base that are sitting home. They have a few problems of their own.”

“This is — to have someone of your intelligence to suggest such a thing maybe means you’re irresponsible and reckless,” he added.

“I’m just asking a question,” Bash said

To both of you I give a simple answer......focus....who is responsible for shutting down the government? The House Republicans, the rest is just empty air trying to justify the unjustifiable.

If a law is not being equally applied... who should adhere to it? Just you? Just me? Just them? Who exactly?

all good policy debate, but what in the hell does it have to do with shutting the government down. Hey, I just had to wait at Walmart check out so I went outside and blew up twenty cars........you want to talk about waiting at Wal Mart check out, I find the blown up cars to be the topic of conversation, and the two have absolutely no nexus.

That's why I have full coverage on all my cars. I'll bet that the same people who need obamacare are also driving with no car insurance. Maybe we should pay for their car insurance too.

lol... You have lost all reason sir. Not that I can blame you...your position is indefensible.

I don't mean to hurt your feelings... but the walmart stuff is extra dumb. Perhaps we should talk easier things?

How about them Tigers?

ONLY if the Democrats' hands were totally tied on this would Seaoat's position make any sense.

2seaoat

No the wal mart example is not dumb.....you see a nexus between a beef at the check out and blowing up cars in the parking lot. You want to talk about the substance of the receipt and the problem at the cash register, I want to talk about why the parking lot had to be blown up and what the F it has to do with the receipt and the concerns at the register. Most reasonable people resolve the register issue......they do not go out into the parking lot and blow up the cars. This is simple stuff. You want to debate amendments to the law debate the same, and let the winner get the amendment which is fair and common sense and approved by the majority of the house and senate and signed by the president. Blowing up cars or shutting the government down is a temper tantrum which has no logical nexus to the issue at hand, and to try to create that nexus is idiocy......you choose.

Yes, the Wal Mart employees could enter into a discussion with terrorist about not blowing up more cars in the parking lot........stellar logic. Americans do not negotiate with terrorists. I am sure the folks doing Jihad share your stellar logic.........and it is just those silly Israelis who do not negotiate who have their hands tied.....stellar.

I give up... surely most are willing to believe that less is more. That the law is flexible... that whoever the prez decides is special is the chosen. That the influential are special... that we are the mechanism that builds the greater good. How long will that last?
