Blach!
Blach!
Not all women are like that. A lot are, but not all. Deployments are difficult, no doubt. But if a woman cannot live without her man being there all the time, she shouldn't marry a military man.PACEDOG#1 wrote:I went to Atlanta. What the ex wife didn't take at the divorce in May when I got back from Iraq, Ivan took in September. Going through same process again minus the hurricane now. Probably 0 percent chance I remarry while I wear this uniform because women say one thing about you bring gone, but live another way once deployed or TDY.
So many of us were in the same situation, Teo. I remember going to Tally afterwards and standing in a Walmart. My husband and I looked at each other and said simply: "There is nothing we don't need!"TEOTWAWKI wrote:sorry for your terrible loss. Seems like there is always something to be grateful even in the most dire situation. The Churches of Christ across the country sent my son a couple years supply of diapers , baby food and clothes and gave him so much money that he felt compelled to return most of it.stormwatch89 wrote:So many of us were in the same situation, Teo. Yet, there's always a bright spot. My Daughters met me in Tally and had a trunk full of clothes, food etc. It was a loving gesture I'll never forget!

You married your carpenter ? Who knew Ivan was a matchmaker..LOLPBulldog2 wrote:I stayed with some extended family (actually, my ex-husband and his father-in-law) in Milton during Ivan. Along with me, they put up with my two dogs and two cats. Saints, they are. (The ex and I realized many, many years ago that we were better as friends than we ever were married.)
It was three days before I could finally get home. My next door neighbor's house had been demolished by an oak tree, but mine was standing. I had an oak tree in my yard and other trees down in my back yard. I learned to be proficient with a chain saw - I did all that work myself.
It was six months before I could finally reach a settlement at with Citizens through arbitration. They were horrendous to deal with. A nightmare. The day before the arbitration hearing, they were calling me at 0700, all through the day, and again at 2330 at night.
The morning after the settlement, I received a really nasty call from the Citizen's rep with whom I had been dealing. Just plain mean, he was.
I was lucky. Technically, my house should have been torn down per the city. I'm glad they never checked into my situation.
My carpenter, whom I later married, helped me restore the house to the best of our ability. The only work he didn't do personally was the total roof replacement. He also went with me to arbitration.
I am a lucky woman.

I get chills thinking how it brought you a great husband, PB. What a silver lining!!!PBulldog2 wrote:I think I have PTSD related to Ivan. It was a long time before I could comfortably leave my house even to go to work or the store. I had an irrational fear that it wouldn't be there when I returned.
I'm not an agoraphobe, but there are times when I still have trouble leaving the house for long. I didn't have that problem prior to Ivan.
Stormy, I expect you share my feelings here. I was so sure my house would be gone, based on all the news I was receiving while I was in Milton. When I saw my house was still standing, I just sat down on the ground with my face in my hands for heaven knows how long.
Yep, they did our house in 2010. We already had hurricane shutters and storm-proof garqage doors, so only needed strapping and bracing up in the attic.Jake92 wrote:I had Rebuild NW Florida update my house and thankfully it hasn't been tested yet...
