The vote will happen by tomorrow.

The only Senator putting up a fuss is Lindsey Graham (R, SC).

The vote is expected to be along party lines, so it looks like he will be confirmed unless a Democrat either votes against Hagel or fails to vote.

Now the GOP is going to filibuster the Hagel nomination:

That's never been done before.

The Republicans keep saying that government doesn't work. So they run for office and prove it to be true. This is just crazy, the DoD without a leader, and a Republican at that. I hope the voters hold them responsible for all these stunts and turn the House back to the Democrats. Wouldn't that be just great? Maybe we could get something done in the last two years of Obama's term.

Congrats are in order for Harry Dipshit Reid for getting that comprehensive filibuster reform done.

It looks like there are not enough votes to stop the GOP foolibuster of Hagel today. They won't get the 60 votes. It will only delay Hagel's nomination by about a week and a half.

The Senate is in recess next week, and afterward, only 51 votes will be needed to end the foolibuster; then Hagel's nomination will be voted on and he will be confirmed.

What is unprecedented is, never before in our nation's history has a SECDEF nomination ever been filibusterd. Maybe Obama will just make Hagel a recess appointee when the Senate goes on vacation next week......

Obama will not withdraw Hagel's name, and neither will Hagel withdraw his own name. Hagel's brother was interviewed, and he said that because of all of the opposition against him, Chuck Hagel will "work even harder" once he is finally nominated.

He sat on the GOP side of the Senate, and he knows where the rocks are in the stream. He'll be pushing against those rocks, and his former GOP Senate colleagues had better be wary if they want to protect defense jobs in their states against the cuts that Hagel will likely be initiating.
