Federal agents are trying to determine how a suspected Ohio white supremacist with a felony conviction for manslaughter acquired a cache of 18 assault weapons and other firearms, along with high-capacity magazines and more than 40,000 rounds of ammunition, according to federal law enforcement officials and court documents reviewed by NBC News.

The storehouse of weapons was discovered late last month when FBI agents arrested Richard Schmidt, 47, the owner of a Bowling Green sporting goods store called Spindletop Sports Zone, on charges of marketing counterfeit goods -- such as football jerseys with NFL logos -- from China.

I posted the same thing on general discussion. If we cannot keep weapons out of felons hands, then we do not have a system which protects Americans. We need the tools to register weapons, background checks, dynamic foid cards, biometric and chipped guns. This is silliness if a person like this can so easily thumb their nose at the law.....we need gun safety protocols which do not allow this to happen.

The laws or executive orders signed by your Messiah will do nothing to prevent the same thing from happening again. It will limit what law abiding citizens can do.

There is a thing called a black market. That combined with the appreciation of said weapons makes it easy to get whatever you want provided you have a wheelbarrow full of cash.

No law will stop criminals from getting what they want. Prohibition was the same way. Ban liquor and you get a black market for is stronger than sales before the law was signed.

For all of you thinking Obama has a magic bullet to reduce the chances of criminals/mentally ill get weapons, you are sorely mistaken. You'd do well to arm up yourselves in case you need to defend your own home.

Not talking about prohibition.....just attaching information on the booze bottles and guns. Making sure that the person selling alcohol has a license.....and that the person buying the gun is qualified.

So how will a registration system prevent an incident like this from happening? How would it have stopped this man from illegally obtaining 18 assault rifles? Keep in mind people like this DO NOT obey the law.

It doesn't matter Seaoat, we could be talking about horseshoes having a license to be sold. People who want a product will get that product regardless of the laws in place. That is something you and the rest of your Obamaites don't get.

So we shouldn't have laws because it's useless? WTH kind of thinking is that?

Isn't that the exact same argument some people use to justify legalizing marijuana?

No one said limiting the purchase of assault weapons and ammo will completely prevent black market purchases, but it's a deterrent. Criminals will find ways around the laws, but they'll be criminals and subject to prosecution and incarceration.

But Seaoat's plan smacks of Big Brother.

That's an entirely different subject. Marijuana doesn't kill people...but marijuana prohibition most assuredly does.

So what you're saying is that there's no reason to impose laws that inhibit law abiding citizens from purchasing these types of firearms because the criminals will be able to get them anyway.
