The Dalai Lama is one of my favorite dudes.
The other day, hubby and I watched a lecture he gave after a three-day meeting of Buddhists in New York. The Dalai Lama's speech is difficult to understand, so he had an interpreter close by.
Hubby and I were both mesmerized as he spoke. At one point, he was talking about the need for global secular education. He opined that religion should be left out of general education. He was quite passionate and eloquent on this subject.
At the end of this portion of his lecture, however, he turned to his interpreter and said, clearly, "But if it doesn't work, fuck it."
Then he started laughing, as did the audience. I don't know if he really knows what he said, but it had me laughing all day long. It was a priceless moment.
EDIT: For those who are interested, this documentary, entitled Compassion in Emptiness, is available on Netflix.
