BREAKING NEWS: A fighter jet has crashed at Tyndall AFB.

Lt. Holiday at Tyndall AFB confirms an F-22 Raptor went down at 3:30 p.m. a quarter mile east of the drone runway. The pilot ejected safely before the crash. He is currently under supervision of the 325th Medical Group.

Hwy 98 is closed at the DuPont bridge. HAZMAT crews and other first responders are on scene.

Colonel David Graff, Vice Commander of the 325th Fighter Wing, Air Combat Command at Tyndall AFB, will hold a news conference at 5:45 p.m. News Channel 7 will carry it live.

I guess we just went from 187 F-22s down to 186. Those planes cost about $250 million apiece.

Some are calling for the total scrapping of the problem-plagued F-35 Lightning II JSF program, and do a restart of the F-22 production line instead.

I wonder if this had anything to do with the aircraft's OBOGS system (on-board oxygen generation system). That system has had problems, leading to the fleet being temporarily grounded for a period.
