Did you know this about Sears? I just received this email about it and checked and it's true.

Sears - Christmas shopping this year.

I know I needed this reminder, since Sears isn't always my first choice. It's amazing when you think of how long the war has lasted and Sears hasn't withdrawn from their commitment. Could we each buy at least one thing at Sears this year?

What commitment you say?

How does Sears treat its employees who are serving in our military? By law , they are required to hold their jobs open and available, but nothing more. Usually, people take a big pay cut and lose benefits as a result of being on active duty.

Sears is voluntarily paying the difference in salaries and maintaining all benefits, including medical insurance and bonus programs, for all employees who are serving.

I submit that Sears is an exemplary corporate citizen and should be recognized for its contribution. I suggest we all shop at Sears at least once this year. Be sure to find a manager to tell them why we are there so the company gets the positive reinforcement & feedback it well deserves.

Pass it on.

I decided to check this before I sent it forward. So I sent the following e-mail to the Sears Customer Service Department:

I received this e-mail and I would like to know if it is true. If it is, the internet may have just become one very good source of advertisement
for your company. I know I would go out of my way to buy products from Sears instead of another store for a like item, even if it's cheaper
at that store.

This is their answer to my e-mail:

Dear Customer:
Thank you for contacting Sears. The information is factual. We appreciate your positive feedback. Sears regards service to our country as one of greatest sacrifices our men and women can make. This is the "least" we can do for them.
We are happy to do our part to lessen the burden they bear at this time.

Please pass this on . Sears needs to be recognized for this outstanding contribution and we need to show them as Americans, we do appreciate what they are doing for our Military!!!

Yeah, I found that out when I was living in Kansas, along with a long list of bag-o-shit businesses who treat servicemen and women terribly. But it's good to pass that sort of thing around now since most people will soon be leveraging themselves up to their eyeballs in credit card debt to pay for that thing they call "Christmas."

I feel for those who are being put in these situations because they're being convinced by thoughtless, wrong-headed, selfish politicians and media figures and many in the American public who convince them it's their patriotic duty to be there.
I think it's a real tragedy how they're being victimized by a fucked up society.
Many of them come back home with their minds and their bodies mangled for no good reason. I want them to get every break they can when they come home.

Back in the earlier years of the Iraq war, two different employees from my company who were reservists deployed to the war zone. The company treated them very well, held their jobs for them, and sent frequent care packages. Many of the care packages were bought with donations made by their fellow employees.

Our firm made sure deployed reservists who were employees were taken care of.

Wait a minute? Since when does working in a retail store pay more than the military? They also have benefits in the military so what is Sears actually paying? I'm very suspicious about this. It sure would boost their sales now, wouldn't it?

Yes it probably is good PR for Sears and might "boost their sales" if enough people know about it.
But it's like this. The same thing holds true for Publix. They outright give me absolutely free two of my medications (lisinopril and metformin). Publix is also doing that for the PR value and yes they're trying to get me in the store to buy groceries.
But you know what, I love them for it regardless. lol

I take Lisinopril also and it caused me to switch my other prescriptions to them as it was easier.. so they made out. I also always buy something there when I pick up my prescriptions.

Heard ya, Bob and actually acted on it. Found great Christmas Decorations there earlier than other stores.

I took your cue and mentioned their military support. He agreed and said Sears actually runs several programs throughout the year in addition to the one you mention.

At the end, he asked me for a buck for the current one. Smile

I've always liked Sears. Thanks.

Nope. It's for blood pressure. I have taken it.

My blood pressure was out of whack until I found myself under the care of a Muslim Doctor who went to medical school in Syria. His name is Dr. Khalid Abussada, and he is a hospitalist at Sacred Heart--I ended up in Sacred Heart for 10 days in December of 2008 for really bad pneumonia. If I were to meet Dr. Abussada again, I would thank him a thousand times for prescribing the right combination of meds for my blood pressure. MY GP could not get it right over a 2 year period. I take Diovan, furosemide, nifidecal, and bystolic for blood pressure. It is perfectly normal now.

My doctor prescribed lisinipril to me for BP, gave me a terrible cough, switched me to losartan and got rid of the cough. The boat that I am on now has a gym, been hitting it everyday and hopefully soon I won't have to take BP meds anymore.

Well I thought that also but if they were in management they may make pretty good money and although, no their medical won't cover them on active duty if they have dependents on their group insurance it will cover them. But then again I believe since they were on active duty their dependents would be covered. There are several companies (although the law) that tell vets their jobs are gone when they come back. Sears is doing a good thing.
