Trump is bound and determined to demonstrate to his base that he is the sole savior of American values from the ducky hordes ...

noted earlier that Mike Pence walked out of the Colts/49ers game, ostensibly because he was offended that the 49ers decided to “take a knee” during the national anthem.

Here’s the thing: he knew this was going to happen. The press was told to remain in the parking lot, and not even to bother coming in — as Pence would be leaving early.

This was nothing more than a stunt. A premeditated and incredibly cynical stunt. I was going to call it a “cheap stunt” — but that would be wildly inaccurate, because it actually cost the taxpayers quite a lot of money. Consider: Pence had just been in Las Vegas, and his next stop was Los Angeles, a short plane flight west — but he instead flew all the back to Indianapolis for this photo op, taking his entourage and his security detail with him. The streets doubtless had to be blocked off for his motorcade. I’m quite sure special security precautions were taken for the Vice President of the United States. And all along, he planned to engage in a tawdry, pre-planned sham performance — with all the expense that entails — just to get people embroiled in a cynical culture war.

I agree with Ed Krayewski at Reason:

Pence certainly knew the history of the 49ers in the protests, or should have. . . . But had he simply chosen not to attend, he couldn’t have put on this show. That required giving money to the organization he claims he’s boycotting.

But Pence’s move isn’t about a genuinely-held belief. It’s a rank political stunt at the expense of taxpayers, and reveals the self-masturbatory nature of much of what government officials do.

Pence dragged Secret Service out to Lucas Stadium, only to throw a hissy fit and walk out.

I would add only: that was the plan all along.

Just how stupid do you think we are?

If they want to pull something like this as a sort of campaign stunt, let them pay for it with campaign money. Don’t bill the taxpayers for this. This is why people hate government.

This is NOT why people hate government...this is why PEOPLE HATE TRUMP... and his smarmy sidekick.  And it was most certainly a CHEAP PUBLICITY STUNT.  POS Drumpf has a 32% approval rating, which should be more like -32%.

Every day Trump or someone else in his administration does at least four or five things that we'd never stop hearing about if Obama had done them... and his base just shrugs.

"Obama played too much golf!" I still hear that out of Republicans, and not a peep about Mar-A-Lago and Trump's constant golf trips (which I don't really mind because, considering his incompetence, better he be out there than working).

If anybody in the Obama administration pulled an obvious stunt like this, Hannity would bring it up at least once a week for the next thirty years. But I guarantee you he'll vigorously defend Pence if anybody brings it up to him.

Republican integrity is subzero.

It's fine to call pense's protest a political stunt... it was. But so is kneeling. They're both divisive imo.

But I really don't think either side is right necessarily. But a cause is exponentially better that's inclusive instead of exclusionary. Say the protest is about police brutality and not just police brutality against blacks? The issue of a growing police state and militaristic tactics is after all systemic (and still not the root problem)... then we might have a chance to force change. It should be clear to everyone by now the direction of govt authority in this country... it isn't going to cede that willingly.

By at least one estimate so far:  Approximately $300,000.

Trump Campaign Raising Money off Pence Walking Out of NFL Game

President Donald Trump’s joint fundraising committee sent an email Monday asking donors to show support for Vice President Mike Pence’s decision to leave an NFL game in Indianapolis after some members of the San Francisco 49ers kneeled during the national anthem.

The solicitation from the Trump Make America Great Again Committee, which jointly raises money for Trump’s presidential campaign committee and the Republican National Committee, asks supporters to give at least $5 to the campaign to receive a “I STAND FOR THE FLAG” sticker.

“Immediately after the vice president’s honorable display of leadership and patriotism, the Fake News Media relentlessly ATTACKED him,” the email says. “The media is NOT going to win this fight, because we have the AMERICAN PEOPLE standing on our side.”

Trump has denounced NFL players who kneel during the national anthem in protest of police brutality, saying that the league would “go to hell” unless it barred players from demonstrating, and suggesting players who protested should be fired.

Former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick last year started a trend of kneeling during the national anthem in protest of what he said was systemic mistreatment of blacks by law enforcement. Kaepernick, who four years ago led the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance, is no longer with the team. An unsigned free agent, his protest has been widely listed as part of the reason no team has yet hired him.

Pence, a former Indiana governor, was attending a football game Sunday between the Indianapolis Colts and the 49ers, where the Colts retired Peyton Manning’s number and erected a statue of their former quarterback. The attention didn’t stay on Manning for long.

Trump, on Twitter, said he’d asked Pence before the game to depart if any players kneeled. They did, and Pence did. “I left today’s Colts game because @POTUS and I will not dignify any event that disrespects our soldiers, our Flag, or our National Anthem,” Pence said in a statement after exiting the game.

Pence was in Las Vegas before flying to the Colts/49ers game. After the staged walkout, which Trump has acknowledged asking him to do, he flew to LA for a fundraiser supporting Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, who was identified for Russian ties by House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

The benghazi lies and cover-up all the way from the press secretary conference to the Sunday tv shows was an elaborate political stunt right before the election. If you just look at the scope and significance... Obama's was much worse.

This administration is like a disease infecting the country. It is spreading into every aspect of our lives. The SOB's couldn't even leave our football fun alone, just had to try and dick it up.

How many times did Obama and Michelle fly to the same location on the same day in 2 jets? Look it up, Hawaii, California, Martha's Vineyard... to name a few.

Because you're on a forum where you try to defend your positions/assertions.

Great comparison...except there is no comparison...except the Benghazi investigations were nothing more than a witch hunt which yielded nothing...except that the Benghazi press conference was a reaction to a horrible tragedy, not an orchestrated attempt to demonize and denigrate players exercising their First Amendment rights. DOLT.

Of course... you extend a pass to your team. Color me shocked... lol.

But I can call them both political stunts... because they are.
