The House plan envisions major cuts to federal spending over the coming decade, bringing the budget into balance by relying on accelerated economic growth to boost revenue. Under the House plan, defense spending would steadily increase over 10 years while nondefense discretionary spending would decline to $424 billion — 23 percent below the $554 billion the federal government is spending in that category this year.

Adjusted for inflation and population growth, that represents a 42% cut in domestic spending decimating spending on national parks, education, food assistance, housing, basic research, transportation, law enforcement, the EPA, and on and on and on ...

... all to finance a massive tax cut on the rich.

We are staring evil in the face.

Sal, this will never pass in my opinion but it reveals yet again the influence of Steve Bannon on public policy.

This is the essence of morality in America. Exporting MIC for gross profits and more innocent civilian deaths, and stealing America from Americans. The wealthy have never had just one country to live, yet Americans overwhelming have few choices but to continue to watch the 17 trillion of equity in their homes be drained off by the Oligarchy, as wealth is being transferred from the middle class to the oligarchy. It is the budget and taxes, and not the clown show we have been given as a distraction to what really is planned. The connection by propaganda that people of color are getting something for free keeps challenged individuals from realizing they are feeding the very monster which condemns their children and grandchildren to poverty.

Indeed.  This isn't America anymore.  It's something much worse.

It's still in the early stages, and we can still stop it, but if we don't, we're going to come to heavy grief and regret, big time.   We have some very twisted ideologues in the White House, some spineless party members in the House and Senate, and a population too fired up on propaganda and ginned-up partisanship to be honest with themselves about what's really going on.  They wanted to "win" so badly they don't care yet what they've allowed to happen... and they're still in denial about it.  History's not going to treat them kindly if they don't wake up.

I would agree that it's unlikely, yet not impossible, that this monstrosity would pass in its current form.

It is, however, much like the healthcare debacle, a very stark reminder of the vision of greed and cruelty fueled by ignorance and intolerance of our fellow citizens that the current form of the GOP in Congress and their abomination in the Oval Office are peddling.

The cuts sound good. But the mic spending is completely wrong. Expand the reserves and technical tactical development... but cut the size of the military by half... and the pentagon by 3/4ths.
