My oldest grandson was in kindergarten this year. He got all 3s on a 4 point grading system, and never once at conferences did the teacher tell my son and his wife that he was struggling with reading. They only had 13 kids in the class, and they had a reading assistant. Well, apparently this teacher is teaching summer school, and out of the blue they get a letter suggesting that he attend summer school. The teacher is 56 and under the Illinois pension system, your pension is determined by the last five years income average. Teachers take bus duty, coaching positions, and teach summer school to get that additional pay to bring their average up before they retire. As my son said, they think this is bogus, but teaching or any successful business succeeds with communication. If there was a reading deficiency, it should have been addressed in December, not by letter in late May. They are chilling because it is a small rural school district and they do not want to make this a bid deal, and they are hopeful that if he does attend summer school he will grow stronger.
I just enjoyed the youngest grandson's birthday and interacted with kids. I told the grandsons that we are going to dress up as native Americans and go spear and bow fishing. It is illegal to do the same in Illinois, but it will be all show as we go on the warpath......I bet Crazy horse did not take a golf cart to battle, but I am looking forward to them visiting in a couple weeks. My oldest granddaughter is saving money for girl scout camp, and I am going to let her cut some grass with the john deere commercial mower. We have a four acre open field which I will set up a circle. I did this with my son in first grade. We made a pedal extender and he would cut eight acres never making a turn but just growing the circle until he ran out of gas. I cannot let them get near the river and the zero turn will take some training, but she is all excited about earning her girl scout money. I wish I had more time, but damn I am grateful for the time I have been given. I get sad thinking about Bob and his beloved life possessions being sold, and then I think about it, and those things are going to make some people very happy. We each only have so much time and all we can hope for is to make this world just a little bit better. Bob made this world better, and I so miss pulling his chain and learning from him. Oh well, I will try to make one of the auctions and get some of his stuff, and only wish he could tell me the story behind the items.
