Red state governors in Mississippi and Georgia complain they've been waiting for a response from Trump for days

Nearly two dozen people have been confirmed dead in the aftermath of massive storms that hit three Southern states over the weekend. And while President Donald Trump was signing an executive order freezing hiring for all federal employees during his first “day of action,” the governors of affected red states have been begging for assistance from the federal government.

As four severe storms moved south from Georgia and Mississippi into the Florida Panhandle, 50 unconfirmed tornadoes have been reported from Thursday to Sunday, according to the Weather Channel. Experts believe weeks of cleanup will be required, but so far, the Trump administration has all but ignored the crisis.

NBC News reported that Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant sent a letter to Trump pleading for help after four people were killed in his state and more than 1,000 homes were damaged in one county alone. Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal expanded a state of emergency in his state — where 15 people have been confirmed dead — from seven counties to 16 on Monday afternoon and extended the order through Jan. 30.

Chris Cohilas, Georgia’s Dougherty County commission chairman, said he was “begging FEMA for boots on the ground” and “asking President Trump to cut through the red tape and get people on the damned ground here.”

The area was still recovering from a devastating Jan. 2 tornado hat left a trail of damage in excess of $50 million when it were hit early Sunday with another brutal storm. Dougherty County officials told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that they felt abandoned by FEMA after the Jan. 2 tornado, and that Sunday’s storms — which left four in the county dead — only made matters worse.

When he said you're on your own by god he meant it.

I am sorry for the tragedy with these storms, but the state government should provide the immediate buffer. Those states massively voted for Trump, and Trump made it clear he is tired of federal hand outs. We had tornado damage in Illinois twice within twenty miles of our residence with loss of life and property damage and not a dime of federal aid. The expectation in Illinois is very much different than gulf states who have faced disaster in more frequency and intensity, and in that process think there is entitlement. I want people helped. However, it is time to reevaluate the entitlement on every thunder storm damage to residences and business.

President Trump pledged federal aid for Southern states damaged by deadly storms this weekend.
"The tornadoes were vicious and powerful and strong, and they suffered greatly," Trump said Sunday of several states. "So we'll be helping out.”
Georgia, Florida, Mississippi and Alabama were hit with devastating storms and tornadoes this weekend, killing at least 18 people, Reuters reported.
Homes were destroyed and tens of thousands of power outages were reported throughout the states.

Trump said he spoke with Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal (R) on Sunday and planned to speak with Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) as well.
Trump expressed his condolences for the lives lost and damaged caused during the swearing-in ceremony for his top advisers on Sunday.

Pledging federal aid and actually sending it are 2 different things. Ask George W Bush.

Been in office 6 whole days and he hasn't personally solved all the worlds problems - what a loser.....remember the massive FEMA failures after Sandy - of course you don't. Federal agencies provide support after State agencies exhaust funds - if a state even planned for a disaster - there is a process but I guess it doesn't apply to the liberal left. Unbelievable......

Right...Hurricane Sandy...Gov. Christie used FEMA funds run ads glorifying himself for his non-response...and was vilified by his party for being too friendly with President Obama.
