RealLindaL wrote:No need for anyone to be envious (certainly not "jealous" - ha, no romance here). Time's criterion for Person of the Year is always, by their own description (as highlighted in their announcement of the Trump pick, BBM), the "person who had the greatest influence, for better or worse, on the events of the year.”
And from Wikipedia: "Time magazine points out that controversial figures such as Adolf Hitler (1938), Joseph Stalin (1939 and 1942), Nikita Khrushchev (1957) and Ayatollah Khomeini (1979) have also been granted the title for their impacts."
Nope, no envy called for here -- that's for darned sure.

For those of you who think Trump is the second coming, there's no question Time Magazine is honoring your guy.
The rest of us giggle at the clever satire!

Striking.
Fascist historical bookends.
And, note the looming shadows behind both.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
Fascinating.

Do you know the definition? Can't express it yourself?
Why are you afraid of my threads? Can't think for yourself?

Obama implemented the largest fascist program in our history. But I don't see complaints from leftists.

Regulating the insurance industry's worst practices and levying a small tax on people who refuse to participate despite receiving government subsidies is not fascism.
Not even close.
Now, what we're seeing with Trump - strongman authoritarian, rise of white nationalism, attacks on minorities, xenophobia, jingoism, anti-democratic values, media distortion through fake news, and the corrupt alliance of anti-intellectual traditionalism and corporate influence - this is pretty much textbook fascism.
