We spend 7 times more than any other country in the world on our military. It's a waste! What we've built is the best equipped, poorest utilized and led troops the world has ever seen. Trump wants to give them MORE ...

The Gulf War (Desert Storm) was a resounding success. Do you know why? It was done right for once - Bush Sr spent a lot of time developing a coalition of international forces and then stepped back and let the military win.

It's political interference and ridiculous ROE's that cause unnecessary losses

The Desert Storm segment of the Iraq war was clearly, as you stated, a strong win for the U.S. military. But just what was the result? Bush Sr. pulled everyone back after recognizing there was no real way for America to actually "win." If you want to refer to Desert Storm as a separate war from the ongoing Iraq quagmire which is still costing us money and blood with no victory in sight, be my guest.

Look at Afghanistan -- with all our might, bravery, weaponry and generalship, we still haven't been able to whip a collection of goat herders.

Reality.

Wasn't Desert Shield/Storm the reason we stationed large numbers of U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia, pissing off Bin Laden and Islamic militants?

How'd that work out for us?

Negative, I don't even know why you would got there.

The goal of DS was to eject Iraq from Kuwait, not to take over Iraq. Done deal.

I have never agreed with the insane decision to invade Afghanistan or Iraq after DS. The Soviets were smart enough to exit Afghanistan - why aren't we? Why are we BACK in Iraq after BHO said it was over? Why are we still in Afghanistan? Why are we in Libya and Syria? Why do we have troops chasing Boko Harem?

BHO is a liar when he says we "don't have combat troops" in those places. We do.

No. If you think you know what really set off the terrorists you are the only one on the planet that does.

Actually, it's pretty simple.

People tend to get pissed off when we meddle in their countries, exploiting resources, and empowering oppressive despotic regimes.

Bin Laden was very clear that one of his chief grievances against the U.S. was the presence of large numbers of troops in Saudi Arabia - home of Islam's holiest sites.

An interesting side note: Had we at sometime chosen to support the people of Saudi Arabia instead of the monarchy we advise, sell weapons to and solidly support, Bin Ladin would have joined us.

He hated the Saudi monarchy -- reality.

On the same subject, the people of Saudi Arabia are still being governed by a despotic monarchy, quick to lash, stone, or lop off the heads of any and all dissidents.  And for some unGodly reason, King
Salman had Bush's and Obama's support AND STILL DOES.
Somebody explain that one to me, please.
