In the weeks since he was shot in the back, 10-year-old Tavon Tanner has undergone several operations to repair the damage from the bullet that tore through his small body and remains lodged between his shoulder and his chest.

The fifth-grader is still in the hospital and still in pain, according to his mother Mellanie Washington.  He doesn't talk as much and cries more often.  Sometimes he'll ask if police have arrested the person who shot him.

"I tell him they will soon," Washington said. "They will."  No one was in custody as of Monday.

Tavon was among more than 400 people shot in Chicago this month. There have been 84 homicides, marking August as the most violent  month in the city in 20 years, according to data collected by the Tribune.  And there are two more days to go.

Too funny.....the last eight years have actually seen lower crime rates than the peak........not even close, but it makes nice news stories for the agenda that black people are animals. Sorry, gangs in Chicago have always been violent, whether they were Irish, Italian, Mexican, or black.....whether is was alcohol, numbers, prostitution, or drugs.......but of course when it was the Irish gangs, the national media did not make a fuss......but those Etalians......you know something had to be done.....nothing much changes does it.

Fine... if you want govt solutions so bad... then let's have one. Roll tanks down the crime ridden streets... put snipers on roof tops... send the militarized police door to door confiscating all of the illegal guns and arresting the criminals. Do that in the large inner cities and then we can brag about our low gun violence statistics... all without placing prohibitions on people and areas that have nothing to do with the real problem.

The same way it was not related to President Reagan when the murder rate was double what it currently is.......never once did I hear propaganda trying to connect the high murder rate in Chicago which was twice as high as under President Obama.....who knew....two Illinois boyz.......and the right wing propaganda ignores double the murder rate under reagan.

Please look at the Yale study which shows the rise of crime in Chicago began when Reagan was in office and fell immediately after he left office......PG 17 of this link......poor Mr. Markle does not know a thing about Chicago

It was one of the deadliest weekends this year and pushed the number of homicides for the month to 84 with three more days to go, according to data collected by the Tribune. In July, 65 homicides were recorded in Chicago - the most for that month in the last decade.

While the worst case scenario as far as mounting murder rates are concerned, Chicago is far from the only big USA city seeing a hike in violent crime.

The paper points out that although Chicago has a lower homicide rate than many small cities, it has experienced more murders and shootings this year than New York City and Los Angeles combined.

More than 400 people have been shot in August, more than 2,800 people so far this year. In comparison, there were 491 homicides and 2,988 shootings in the whole of 2015, the Chicago Tribune noted.
